I went airsofting again for the first time in a long while saturday last. Had my old electric guns my M-60, M-16 and M-14, and my 60/70's loadout. Had fun but had issues with guns that sat for 2 years.
Saw one of the new gas blow back rifles, shot it and yesterday traded my electric M-60(a maintenence nightmare but a classic) as well as M-16 for a GBB M4. This rifle is a blast, 400fps out of the box, green gas or propane charged in a 40rd magazine. Insert mag, pull charging handle like real thing, bolt slams foward (you can feel the weight shift) and let it go, had a distinct 'recoil' feel, mag empties, bolt locks back like real thing and repeat. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LvVwZmtbOtQ" rel="nofollow - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LvVwZmtbOtQ
Changed my game personna to a Norther Afghan SF 'operator' mimicing the boy over there now. Khaki pants, green or brown 'wrangler' shirt', Russian 'Spetnaz' floppy, shemagh, black lightweight boots, new tac harness, drop holster for my GBB M-1911, will post up pic after this sat game.

And yes the boys wife sends him khaki cargo pants and the green or brown 'wrangler' shirts, now the unofficial uniform of his unit as they trot around Northern Afghanistan bringing the 19th century (sometimes even the 20th)to the 12th century.

Also got the parts a re-tweeked my M-14 to a 450fps with .25's, DMR (special ruleset in the game)rifle. Still an electric, but WE is putting out a revamped GBB M-14 here soon, on my shopping list. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lyvfRB_OqvE" rel="nofollow - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lyvfRB_OqvE

Paintball is 'dead' in the area, CJ's shop and field closed up.

I like the M14.  That would be great for "snapping in" drills. How is the 1911?

Maybe I am too "paintball" but I really won't care for GBB rifles until I can have a CA setup with HPA. I want my stuff to work in winter and I don't want to spend $40 for a chinese mag that could leak.

I am impressed more with the upgrade in construction as well as materials in these new GBB rifles. Real steel not poly's, gas system is cleaner and can be 'repaired' and new o rings easily replaced. Reviews on the new KWA mags give them a 98% good, as long as you take care of them, same with the new rifles and pistols. Can run on green gas as well as propane with a shot of silicon lube in the filler, and they are not expansion gases so temperature has far less effect on them.
I got 80rds per gas fill, that two loadings of BB's in the mag.

The KWA I go is a 'profesional' training rifle rather than a standard high end airsoft gun. Correct weight and sturdy build, shot it today and a 3 in grouping at 35m with .25's, 390-405 fps consistant.
My 1911 also a GBB, has been a joy, sat for almost two years, filled with gas, no leaks, and had no issues all day. Maybe 1000 bb's through that 1911 since I bought it and not a problem, keep it clean and lubed and no issues.

There are CA guns out there mostly support weapons 249's, 240's etc, plus a few CA rifles, but the MilSim application is more 'important' than volumn of fire. Still not a real 'spray and pray' case to kill sport....yet.

The group I play with is a low cap or real cap group, no HiCap mags, what you would have in TRW is what you carry. The benifit of GBB is there is no 3-4 round waste like a electric gun, all the bb's in the mag are used.

Still got my moded Carver One, as well as moded Salvo, the old stand by 68Special, and the TPX but no where to use them.

My main setup is an AEG. it is easier in the long run.and cheaper. My GBB setup is an MP5. Setup like the old LAPD SWAT guns. Fixed stock Surefire front end. Works like a dream, is much more fun than the electrics.

I'd also go BBB with my M4 but can't justify the expense of the gun or the mags.

I also like the ability to multi role if you need a support gun but don't have one, the high caps means you can roll like a belt feed.

Edit - Rainy day with nothing to do.

VFC GBB MP5. I prefer the fixed stock over the collapsables. The TIR lens on the LED unit was changed out for an old school Surefire Nitrolon bezel and a Classic Army LED drop in. The factory LED STB on the first day. This is now a great light.

waiting for a part to get back from being machined for the 9" handguard I want.the M4 is so close to real steel that the airsoft parts dont fit. Lol. Have to 'fix' them so it will work. Gonna be epic, and look just like my 15/22 when it is finished, but ironically have more metal in it.

Soooo, what happens when you get shot in the face?

Object of the game is to not get shot in the face. It's a 6mm BB .20 to .25gr, at less than 1 joule (400fps), stings no mark, glasses a ANSI approved full seal so no issues there.   I played paintball back in the day before 'masks' too, a pair of safety goggles, and some skill. Airsoft is far 'safer' than paintball, the impact energy of a .68 paintball far exceeds anything a .25BB can do.

I was thinking of the pictures I've seen of BBs lodged in skin and broken teeth.

Been doing this for awhile, and under rules hard to injure. Now at 'outlaw' fields where velocity is cranked up and safety is secondary to idiocy...yes issues can occur. Real fields with real FPS and engagement distance rules injuries are few, and in out local groups case, as well as the majority of fields and groups, you violate, you are gone, and on our banned list. Don't call hits, one warning and then you are gone and have to appeal to a monthly players board to see if can be reinstated, next violation you are banned. Compared to paintball I think there is far few issues in our game.

I remember those days . . . shop goggles and Splatmasters.  The first field I played at had a "no headshots rule."  The owner's briefing included the following . . . "First headshot the shooter is out,  second headshot the shooter is done for the day,  if it happens a third time the shooter's body will never be found."*

This, except anymore the pain is from bad knees and the pins in my back unfortunately.  When I first started it was due to the fact that nobody knew what a chronograph was and the old paint wasn't only significantly harder shelled, it was also fired at speeds that varied from 200 to 400 fps depending upon the marker and any home done mods that might have been installed.

Bold added for emphasis.  I just wanted to note that paintball would have less problems as well with this approach.  I don't know how the player demographics break out for you but around here paintball tends to be mostly older players with some of their kids in the mix while airsoft is the the 12 and under crowd mostly.

There is NO real outdoor paintball in our area. A small faction (maybe 5-10)play indoor CQB and pound any newbs with rentals, but that is basicaly it.
Our airsoft group ranges in age from 12-64, and about 200 and growing. A new airsoft only store opened and is doing booming bussiness.
We got a big OP with players coming in from surrounding states, a high end MilSim game rather than a scramble and shoot.
I have the artificial knees, neurio-stim in back, full blown diabetic, and still play, low and slow.

I still have my paintball stuff, just no place to play, and with this no reason to really go out and look anymore.

random tid bit. there was a GBB M4 that got recalled by the ATF. they found it was identical to an M16 lower and if you bolted a real steel upper to the airsoft lower you would have a fully automatic weapon...

looks fun though, can you charge the mags off a 5gal or the little propane tanks?

When I was into Airsoft it was fun, but I started leaving after most of the local scene went overboard with playing GI Joe. Most people are on some sort of organized team with crazy commitment requirements, so I quietly stopped playing. There really aren't any oppourtinities to play unless I join some team.

I did see some interesting injuries though. I would say paintball is safer, IMHO.

Just got word back from organizers of the big 'OP' on 22Sep. I am now the scout/sniper for the 'Tan' team. Word is there is a 'beer bet' that I will 'get' thier commander before day is out.
I will be toting my M-14 as a M21 system in a drag-bag, 450 with .20's, 425 with .25's and 400 with .32's. The .32's are my snipe rounds because with weight they will carry further. Will have my GBB M-4 as my movement weapon, and for close in personal work.

Troop my son is my spotter/security, he will be armed with my original select fire G&G M-14, 400fps with .20's.

For those that remmember will have my cover cloth 'burlap' the same that I made that trooped 'dissappear'in the parking lot at the TWC when I gave that little 'class'. Great for my 'hides' as it mimics the coloration of the ground almost to a 't' since we have been so dry out here. Everything fits in my tac-bag mini ruck, burlap x2, green netting, all the 'fun' stuff I carried a long time ago.

Like paintball 'sniping' is not a real function, but I can outrange the standard AEG by 10-15m, and with the upgrades on the M-14/M21 accuracy is a lot better than a standard AEG. Move, set-up, wait, shoot and then scoot. The terrain is a dream for me, those who know how I move, well lets say going to be a 'fun' day for the bad guys.

Will try and get Momma along as photo video person for OP, we bought that expensive vid/cam for something other than animal pic's I hope.
