Well while playing on the computer all is going well when "SNAP, crackle, SNAP, POW" smoke and flame starts coming from the power supply fan vent. Pull the wires from rear, open bedroom porch door and out it goes. Damage, it's totalled, fried, power surge fried motherboard, hard drive, vid card, the works. Plastics and fans were melting, actual flame till I got the extinguisger on it. Even the mem cards are melted, nothing to salvage. Not going to rebuild another machine going to get on off shelf. HP H8-1234, 10GB mem, 1TB hard drive, HD7450 vid card (had a HD6770 in last machine, worked for what I needed, is this new card any better?, no real write ups on it)all for $625 I know could do better, but not in the mood to go shopping, just get something and start again from scratch. -------------

Ouch. I had a friend experienced the catastrophic power supply failure as well. His was pretty much the same story, flames out the fan vent and all. A good quality power supply will usually give warning before it goes blammo. Usually random restarts or freezes. The problem is, it's pretty much the same tells you get from a mainboard or memory about to die. A power supply is actually one of the few components I reccomend to people "Fix it NOW" when they start getting weirdness. Just not worth it to have the magic smoke come out. -------------

Yea, noticed start up delays and long periods of holding in power button before response. Should of set off alarm bells. Bought a Alienware X-51 from a friends store, at his cost. I-7 -3770 CPU 3.4ghz GeForce GT 545 8gb memory 1Tb hard drive Direct X 11 $757 -------------
