And while I hurt like hell, it's only because I slid into a stack of 55 gallon drums knees-first. Hit hard enough they moved 6 inches.

Anyway, got shot out in like a minute my first game but got back into the grove quickly after that. By the last game on the pallet and drum speedball field, I was diving for the snake like a champ and bunkering just like the old days. Only difference is now I need an inhaler to survive the day. Adult-onset asthma suuuuuucks.

Also, Shorty loaned me his Crossover. If you're in the market for a new marker, that's the one to go with right now. Great price point, super light, and it had better air efficiency than my Mini.

The FT-12 did admirably when played against other basic markers. The blade-style trigger definitely lets you get more rounds in the air than the most other stock markers of its class. I'm not a fan of the stock barrel, but who ever is. It's short, loud, and none too accurate though it is a slight improvement over the old stock '98 barrels. What I really liked was that the consistency in velocity with CO2 was much improved over a lot of basic markers. I was seeing variances of 10-12fps, but that was about it, not bad at all considering my Mini jumps 8-9 sometimes. It definitely had a great feel out in the field, and the compactness allowed me to tuck in tight where other mil-sim guys were having to lean way out to get their markers shouldered and aimed. I threw an old Lapco Autospirit on it and it fit like a glove, no issues getting past the barrel nut. That improved the accuracy greatly, but increased the length a bit, but not so much as to lose the advantage of its compact size. I really think that with a small tank(48ci) and an e-trigger dropped in, it would make a fantastic SMG for CQB scenarios.

All in all, a great day! The field I found is classic. Great asymetrical wooded fields with both pallet style and log bunkers. Great old speedball course with pallets, spools, and drums, and a nice airball field if you're feeling like that. Laid back atmosphere unlike Pev's down in VA, and only $20 to play all day since I had good paint and it's not FPO!

I also played on Saturday, no entry/air for the day and 40 dollar cases of Empire, a steal

Actually played a couple of rec days last month and really had a decent time. Can't afford big games right now due to travel costs and all that, so $50 rec days are probably it for awhile.

Wait, glad you had fun and all but you borrowed a marker from Shorty? And it worked? I don't believe it, so the rest of your post must be a lie too.

Nope! It's true! He never touched it after it came back from Tippmann when they did the work on the board. The other two markers he let me borrow were fine as well as they were still in their boxes, tool bags unopened and whatnot.

Remember, he's not allowed to chrono his own marker, that's where it goes all pear-shaped on him.

Once I find some real employment, I'd like to try and get back into it a little. For now though, I only talk to one or two people who still play, and other than PBC, the options are few and far between.

I haven't played in over a year. I miss it like crazy, but it's just too expensive to justify it right now.

I wear my old Hammer knee pads under my camo pants, and then a pair of real pads on top... Gotta protect those knees. Oh, and I wear a cup every time I play...

My first game of fall at Trails of Doom is this Saturday... Can't wait!

Don't know if you guys saw this or not, but here is a video I made from the first time I paid to play paintball earlier this spring at Paintball Country in West Chester Ohio.

This.

Kneepads - a set made for roofing; protection and traction.
An old set of issue jungle boots - ankles support and protection from punjis.
Slider shorts with the always important pocket for inserting protection for those delicate dangly bits.
Gloves
And the back or arm brace as needed.

I still try to play every weekend April - October, weather permitting.  Unfortunately, work has interfered with a lot of my paintball time this year.  (Plus missing a month with a minor, but painful, injury didn't help.)

See, I've never worn a cup. Ever. But never ever taken a shot to the "boys" in any sport I've played except a ding or two in paintball which just hit the tip. As for the knee pads, my old JT hard-shell ones were great, but the velcro is shot and they won't fit over the new style baggie pants and won't stay on when placed underneath against my bare legs. I bought some slip-on compression-fit ones from Empire though, so I'll see how they do when they get here.

I get shot in the "boys" all the time... Course, maybe I have a bigger target or something. lol.

In this game I got hit, but stayed around to film the rest of the game... And got NAILED in the cup, and it BOUNCED...

I can't imagine playing paintball without a cup.

And I'm with Mack on the boots thing, I wear big tall Rocky's that I lace tight to keep from rolling my ankles... The fact that my feet never get wet, even when standing in the creek is a big plus. As well as having traction when other guys are falling down!

I rotate between an old pair of hiking boots and some Bates tactically boots that I got a few years back. Bates have better ankle support, and better for fields with water as they are waterproof. More or less.

I have to admit, that I'm a cup hater. I find them to be really uncomfortable and I chafe like crazy with em. Even when I play roller hockey, I rarely wear one. A guy I know cut a piece of foam so that it fits in the crotch of his pants when he plays paintball. Makes him look like he's hung like King Kong, but he swears by it.

Semi-agreed.  I use 1 1/2 thick open cell upholstery foam (like goes in cushions) in my slider shorts.  It lessens impacts, breathes and is much more comfortable than a cup.

I have.

Actual conversation on a woodsball field.

Hidden Opponent:  "Are you out?"

Mack:  "Dude, I dropped my marker and I'm laying in the open holding my groin; what do you think?"

Hidden Opponent:  "You should put your hand up to show you're out."

. . .

I've worn protection since.

I think you guys that don't like cups are doing it wrong...

The key to comfort when wearing one is the underlayer, that most people skip which causes the issues often described.

Here is what I do. First put on a pair of long legged underwear. Then put the cup in the jockstrap and put it on OVER that first pair. Then put on a pair of regular underwear.

(course I play paintball in the cold, in the summer, I skip the outer pair of underwear)

The lower layer keeps it from chafing, the outer layer keeps it from moving around. And if you have a cup that actually FITS you (most guys buy one too big for some reason...) you don't even notice it. I run, crawl, jump and never even think about it unless i have to pee when playing... That can be a challenge... lol.

I always wear a cup. I always just throw it in my underwear I'm wearing. It doesn't move around. Even if it does chafe (which it doesn't) that would be better than catching a round to the nads.

I've seen that happen. He dropped faster than a guy hit in the head with a 5.56mm.

I never wore a cup while playing paintball. No way am I going to go around diving around and landing on a cup driving it up into me. I never once took a painful shot to the boys, though maybe that's a difference between real paintball pants and the BDUs y'all wear.

I always wore a cup while playing infield in baseball, unless pitching. Only nut shot I ever took in any sport was my very last football game, and it was my fault.

I think that's probably the jist of it. I've been wearing paintball specific pants since 2000 and the protection they offer is probably just as good as a cup where paintball hits/bounces are concerned. overlapping fairly stiff panels with snaps, zippers and velcro and lots of dead space between your jimmies and the pants themselves means that a shot to the groin doesn't really have much chance of hitting your boy parts.

I've never worn a cup or knee pads paintballing.  I find both to be unnecessary and a pain to wear.  Ive also played baseball/softball all my life and Ive never worn a cup unless I was playing infield.

When I first started playing I wore paintball pants, a hoodie and a hat.  Now I just wear paintball pants and a t-shirt.

Last I played, a ball miraculously hit me in the back of the 'nads. The shot came from my 2 o'clock. I usually hang a hand towel or shemagh over the area, with the side in my pants acting as padding. Works wonders from the front - you don't feel a thing - but it didn't save me this time.

I wont be playing again until I get some quality paintball-specific pants. I've seen guys get shot in the region at close range and not even flinch. I tried a cup once, after a while it hurt quite a bit.

Maybe you guys are doing it wrong?

Cups are made to be worn while playing sport. Unless you aren't putting your heart in it, they involve running, diving and sometimes body contact. How is this different from running, diving and entering bunkers in paintball?

How often does diving head first come up in any other sport? Rarely in baseball, even more rarely in football.

I just never felt a cup was necessary in paintball. Proper play attire eliminates the need for it.

The problem is, a large number of testicular injuries come from paintball... Guys playing without protection. It isn't widely reported, so people don't realize the risk.

But, ask any urologist  how many injuries he sees from paintball and you will be shocked. I know I was when I asked mine.

So many new players get the speech and wear a mask, but they are also in jeans or shorts, as no one ever talks about the need to protect your "boys". I think we do a disservice to the sport by not addressing the issue. If you aren't going to wear paintball pants with protection, you do need something...

How much of the industry suggests they wear paintball specific pants though? Most woods ballers wear old BDUs, and that's where most people get their start. Until woods ballers start wearing the proper gear, the bad example will continue.

Yeah, I agree, but each of us can try to point it out when we see it... As the players have a huge impact on a sport.

I talk about it at all my events. And I made a video to get it out there for others... You guys are welcome to pass that video around.

This guy got hit in the "boys" three times in a ROW... When we were playing revolutionary war. He was wearing speed ball pants, so he had protection, but it still obviously hurt.

The "industry" is largely made up of us the players, and we can affect change by being vocal about something that should be addressed but is often ignored as it is "uncomfortable" to talk about.

From simunitions to paintball I've always wore a cup and would recommend anyone playing to wear one. However, I don't own nor ever had owned a pair of paintball specific pants. How about we agree to do one or the other and not play without some form of protection.

Stop playing pansy sports.

Diving headfirst happens very often in Rugby. It is the preferred method of telling you opponent "this far and no further".

Cricket is where I mainly wore a cup, and sometimes you just aren't going to beat the ball without a decent dive. More often you are diving when you're fielding, and not wearing a cup, but it happens. That being said, a full inning of batting is less than one hopper's worth of balls.

I also don't run and dive into every bunker I see.....

I've never worn a cup, that's generally something you don't see a lot of round here.(Aye w're made of sterner stuff!) I have however taken a couple of shots to the old chap and his compadres,

It's a bit like I tell my punters. It is what it is, don't want hurt, don't get shot.

Many years of playing, and I've never worn one. Woodsball, speedball, rec games, scenario games....not once. And I've never taken a round to the pills either.

I completely understand this this is a fool move on my part, but for some reason I've never even picked one up much less worn one. I've seen people take nad shots and its ugly. I freely admit to being an idiot on this subject.

I wore a cup when I played, it never was too uncomfortable for me. The one time I went without I managed to take two hits in rapid succession to the tip and shaft. They were at range and bounced, but boy did it sting. Anyways, the cup is really about preventing serious injury, the odds are that you won't take a serious hit, but it's the close range shots when you aren't defended where you're going to get injured, like trying to bunker someone and they shoot up at you, or you're in a position where your pants are taught. There was once an infamous picture of what a close-range hit can do to that region, it was horrible. I've had enough horrible/hilarious injuries to that area where I would wear a cup if I played again. By the way, it's not having your testicle driven up into your abdominal cavity that hurts, it's when it pops back out. It's like a submarine doing an emergency blow, it slowly gains velocity until it resurfaces violently.

Got shot in the ol' wedding tackle point blank once, someone thought there was no paint left. Easily one of the most painful experiences of my life, after waking up in surgery and a few spectacular snowboard wipeouts.

Even so, never wore a cup, I just ended up, er, padding a bit. My old Empire pants actually provided a lot of protection on their own (didn't have them on in the above incident, as it was ~super serious hiding in the woods-ball~). What I have always considered essential are: gloves (mildly padded mountain biking gloves), and two bandanas (head and neck).

I definitely miss playing, it's been years now since I sold my last marker, and I miss it just on an aesthetic level... God damn that thing was pretty:

Used to wear a cup. Found it pointless especially once I got a pair of really baggy paintball pants. For how many layers there are, wearing a cup isn't necessary. Never been shot in the nads though. If it ever concerns me, I just make sure a leg is more likely to be in the way.

Yeah the couple of nard shots I've taken were "bell end" shots with BDU pants back in my college days. That just frikken stings. But at least you don't get the "I need to vomit" reflex from that experience which a nice hard kick to the nuts would produce.

I've never been shot in the wedding tackle either. Once I lost my box and didn't have time to stop to buy another, so I also added some protection there and just went with it.

I narrowly avoided a hit to the nads. My knee moved in front of them in the last split second.

THAT hurt like hell, so it would have been apocalyptic. I never played without one again. I still have three or four around the house somewhere.

Thankfully I've yet to take one to the stick and berries, but through my years of experience as a hockey goalie I know the importance of protection there. Regretfully and stupidly I've never addressed this issue, but after fanning through these posts it's on my list before I hit the field again. There are a lot of inexperienced players out there these days that just pray and spray, increasing the odds tremendously.

Is Zoom Cam the name of the product itself? I was thinking about a GoPro for the future, how does it compare in terms of video quality?

The ZoomCam is my own invention, I don't have them for sale.

If I were thinking about an action cam, I would lean towards the Contour vs the Go pro. The go pro has a funky size and shape, especially when putting it on your helmet. Plus the mic is pretty weak once inside the waterproof housing to keep paint off of it.

I use a Contour Roam, great little camera for the money.

So my goal filming games was to let the viewer at home "feel" the fun of woodsball.

I think this game finally captures that "feel"... What do you guys think? It is a full game from our last event (game 9).

A sniper was hidden, and we had to push trying to get them to fire and expose "where" they were, as I wasn't sure...
