Or did the Black Keys blatantly rip off "Last Dance for Mary Jane" by Tom Petty with "Little Black Submarines?"

They should at least credit him in the liner notes or something.

I know neither song. I am addicted to Mumford and sons pandora right now though so I have probably heard it.

It is pretty much the same riff just sped up.

Last dance with Mary Jane is pretty similar to quite a few songs as well. That's a pretty common chord progression.

The black keys have worn down their novelty with me though. I still think they're head and shoulders above most other indie groups but alot of their songs are starting to blend together to my ears.

I think indie in general has kind of lost its appeal to me over time though. I enjoyed that brief period of grungy, distorted rock when the Stripes were still active but I don't really enjoy alot of the newer stuff. If I hear grouplove or gotye on the radio one more time I swear to God I'm going postal.

I really dig mumford and sons. I was skeptical when I first heard lion man but their later singles are fantastic. Really innovative for radio friendly music.

Rock music in general is based on ripping off black musicians wholesale and reselling to white audiences in a racially acceptable form, the Black Keys in particular are hardly a font of originality.

I never liked the Black Keys and I still don't.

Come now, you've got a whole slew of Nordic alternative groups coming out now. Of Monsters and Men in particular are pretty awesome. Lots 'o' accordion.

I like the black keys, I just don't understand why so many people think they're so amazing.

And I like Tom Petty's version better.

Of course not.  It isn't even a thinly veiled drug reference song...
