Gentleman of the forum, while I enjoy wasting hours of time playing minecraft on my xbox, I still have to admit, I enjoy the computer version much more, simply because there are so many more features. I also recently had a conversation about the forum server with Styrofolme, who seemed interested in joining in our reindeer games.

So who do I have to harass to get the server up and running?

I got bored and looked into the Classic version a while ago, I didn't feel like spending the money or the time on the paid, full version, and classic still has a ton of following.

I'm actually hosting a classic free build server at the moment, which is sort of fun, but its so far removed from the version you're looking to play.

if you'd like- a friend of mine hosts a full version server called "Craftmania" - if you drop in there, tell them Reb sent you.

We were actually just bringing that up in PBC.

I brought up possibly doing a modded server, using the Tekkit pack. It ioncludes tons of new recipes and crazy stuff.

Power large quarries, to mine stuff with different value, that can be fed into an energy condenser to duplicate almost anything you want. No more cutting down tons of trees for wood, or any building block. To me it's cool the things you can build like large complex sorting machines. Most people like minecraft because you can build cool things. Well tekkit allows you to build cool things that actually do something.

Not sure if Choop means what I do, but it was the simplicity of minecraft that I really enjoyed. I liked seeing the city we had built with the bare essentials.

My nephew got me hooked on the Xbox 360 version of Minecraft. I went ahead and bought the PC version thinking that it would be a huge improvement, but I actually liked the simplcitiy of the XBox version better oddly enough.

Yeah that's essentially my point. This just seems like added grinding with minimal pay off. If it were a different game with vehicles and things like that I can maybe understand, but now it just feels like complication for complications sake. My best times on multiplayer are building and exploring a city with the regulars. It's the same reason it annoyed me when we'd start a new map and everyone would scatter to the far reaches of the world to build, completely ruining the point of multiplayer since you'd never see anyone/ what they made. Making a city was great, particularly our flat one, and the one in a valley where we built city walls. I would definitely do that again.

Well how close were you? Cant encroach on their property/ view. Damn I want to build another valley city now, that was awesome up until someone started booby trapping TNT under floors with pressure triggers in the doorway

I felt like it was far enough. He had castle walls and I was further away from the walls than other buildings around. I was also in some woods. I don't get why people get their underwear in a bunch when it was just a temporary map.

Oh well, stuff is in the past. I don't have time to play minecraft anymore.

I liked the valley map. I didn't want to make the city ugly so I built my crappy house out to the side, but I enjoyed building my underground railroad system all over the place.

Absolutely, if someone put up a server I'd have no place to complain already. And exactly, it's only as complicated as you make it, which is nice. I'd try to contribute, as long as we can at least establish a city center before people bugger off and build their getaway homes/ hideouts. It's one of the best parts of multiplayer. I still occasionally go on a public server that has a large central area laid out with a city-like grid pattern of streets, and you just sort of claim pieces of the lots. Out of that area pretty much anything goes.

I second this. It was annoying to have to fly for 10 minutes across empty space to see what people had built. Teleporting to find these places was equally annoying. If you want to run off to BFE to build a castle, you might as well do it in a single player game.

Solar panels put out super low voltage, like 1-2 EU/T. If you make a large group of them, use tin cable (low resistance, doesn't need shielding) to connect them all and run into a batbox. Then run jacketed copper cable into your machines.

I made myself a couple hydroflowers to power all my stuff. I loaded all my machines with overclocks and I can still run 2 machines without draining all the line power.

The server I used to run was running on my "last generation parts" machine. However, that machine currently has no memory (Had to use it to repair the old mans machine)

Not to mention I switched ISPs, FIOS worked great for running the server as it had huge amounts of bandwith. Not sure how much comcast gives, but they're known for being tools.

Basically running a minecraft server needs a dedicated machine. It's a very processor and memory heavy thing to host, and that's even without extra goodies and addons and stuff. The old server was running 4gb of memory and even then it would start to chug when addons were running.

Ah. My geotherm sucked the volcano dry, so I thought I'd branch out. Guess I need more branches. Next stupid question, how does one get gasoline out of a refinery? I get the oil pumped into it, and it gets changed, but then what?

You need to pump it out. You use wooden pipe (or wooden waterproof pipe) to remove items from a container. The piece of pipe needs to be powered by a redstone engine, or any other Redpower powersource. Then you have to pump it into a tank for holding until you use it.

Good news everyone.

I may have found something to host the server on. My friend has an older machine he doesn't need, but it might not be enough. I don't have a lot of details, but apparently it could run up to 10 people with more ram. I think it has DDR2 unfortunately.

Annoying too, because I don't pay the power bill in my dorm and I have a lot of bandwith.

Each team has 20 hours to build forts without encroachment from either side. Must be done with mined materials instead of admin commands. Control the game by leaving the server open for limited amounts of time so all building can be monitored. At a set date and time that everyone knows, the server is opened for free travel. Whatever happens is at the whim of the players.
