Hey so as someone pointed out, the link to the forum is gone from the front page. At some point the company will probably shut the forum down because nobody plays paintball anymore.

So, anyway, if you still want to catch up with people when the plug does get pulled, go to  http://www.facebook.com/TippmannForum" rel="nofollow - www.facebook.com/TippmannForum

If they shut us down. We riot.

Scotchy will instigate it.

Tallen will provide gas masks

Whale, media relations.

Plenty of service positions open, sign up.

I say we pillage and invade the OMHW forum.

and possibly Fort Wayne, too.

Edit: I'm going to guess that if they were to kill Mother, they would probably let the mods know first. So likely we could organize first.

It can't be that much hassle to keep the forum going surely. it takes care of itself and does it cost any money to host this on their site?

But if they do try and bin it I'll make sure it all kicks off. I'm gonna start stocking up on patio furniture, traffic cones and such.

I don't see the forum closing any time soon, but it is definitely decaying over time.

HOWEVER, the first link is to a fan page which does not function well as a public platform/ forum. I've created a group, and suggest you join https://www.facebook.com/groups/tippmannforum/" rel="nofollow - this one instead.

We are going the way of the 'Twinkie', and the forum is soon to join the collectable and memories of better times. Bottom line, poor economy, poor sales, low descretionary income for hobbies, yep the forum is a cost Tippmann will cut, rest assured.

They do different things, too. One's a public setting with more functionality for longer updates, the other is/will be private and is better for more conversations.

As forum President I must step in . . .

. . . and offer my support to whomever provides the best campaign contributions.

Edit:  On a serious note, I am an optimist and don't believe the forum will go away.  Here's my thinking, some of which is just common sense and some of which is based on my degree in business.

Tippmann is going to have an IT infrastructure no matter what.  In reality a forum like this is a minimal additional expense as pointed out above.  However, from a marketing standpoint it makes sense to keep the forum because eventually the economy is going to turn around and when it does there will be people who put off making discretionary paintball purchases and kept renting or didn't play.  There will also be people who have been interested in paintball but are just reaching the age where they can buy their own equipment.  These will be members of IT savvy generations who have done research and found this forum among other things.  Getting rid of the forum would be the equivalent of getting rid of a ready-made market when the economy turns around.  When benefits are weighed against costs I just don't see flushing the forum as a sound decision.  Granted, there are businesses that make poor decisions; a classic example from my classes being cutting marketing expenditures because sales are down and they wish to save money.  (This is widely considered a "let's cut our own throats" move, but it does happen.)  However, Tippmann has a history of making very good business decisions so I can't imagine anyone doing something like that.

I think it's really more tongue-in-cheek about the forum going away. But jebus did we get some seriously high volume when we started the chat group! Mispelled, styrofloam, cat, Rockslide, and many, many more we haven't seen for a while all jumped right in. Fast conversation too, reminded me of the old days when topics would drop off the front page in a matter of minutes some days.

Even when I started becoming an active member, the first two whole pages, and often onto the third were active topics.

Makes you wonder what happened. I wouldn't expect a company like Tippmann to suddenly lose all that newb traffic. Maybe people just search the forum get what they need and leave.

This is a good point as well;  I didn't even consider the advantages the forum provides in the way of tech support.  There are people here who can answer questions on Tippmann markers that most of the current Tippmann employees might never have actually even seen.

Related to the above post:
  • I don't facebook.  Not because of not understanding "that dang new-fangled facebook thingy" but because of the risks involved in using facebook.  I read an article a while back that indicated facebook could be responsible for as much as 70% of the spreading of current computer viruses.*
  • I've seen farmville; my wife was hooked on it for a while.  It is another reason not to facebook.

*  All age jokes aside, one of my minors is in Computer Information Systems, and given my background in USAF security I try to stay abreast of most aspects of computer security. ** I am by no means an "IT guy" but I do most of the upkeep/maintenace and software/hardware repairs and networking for the extended family.  It's not something I enjoy all that much or would want to do for a living but I thought I should learn about it when my son was headed off to the Navy and wouldn't be around to fix my computers anymore.

**Security is essentially the same be it info security, IT security or physical security.  There is no such thing as completely secure unless one is willing to accept measures which would render the item/info being secured practically useless even to those who are authorized to use it.  What you can do is create a level of difficulty that deters possible perpetrators from coming after your stuff and causes them to seek easier targets instead.  That said, all security at an individual level is still a trade off between function and comfort level.  I.e. how much functionality you are willing to give up to reach your comfort level security-wise.  I am willing to forgo social networking to keep myself more secure.***

Kidding, of course, Mack. I haven't learned anything new about computers in at least 4 years.

I think PBN, MCB, 98OG etc all scooped up the people who used to come here. Plus, you can google just about any problem with any marker these days and get a link to a thread with the answer without even having to sign up or ask the question anymore.

I dunno. The Warhammer forums shut down pretty quick when they decided to not support them any more. They could make most of the claims this forum can make as well. They were informative, supportive and spreading the love, but they still got the axe.

Companies/orgs don't like to leave non-officially-administrated forums up for liability reasons.

Facebook and sites like Reddit are a bigger, faster, easier way to gather people and information now. Why would sign up on here if I can get 150 replies on the official facebook page? Or on reddit I can hit /r/paintball and get replies from people who still play.

Individual forums are less popular now, the internet has changed.

Who remembers when the Forum took a dump some few years back for a day, That gave half the members withdrawals. It even inspired a thread..

Shutting the whole thing down would be a shame though... Cry
