About 10 years ago my brother purchased a Taurus Raging Bull in .454 Casull from an estate. He hasn't been able to license it (in our laws you need a "need" for every firearm) and you can only take them home with a license (Or a temporary storage permit if you've applied for the license)

The other day the shop phoned him and said come get your damn gun or we selling it.

He still can't prove a need, and is a little busy with his PhD, so I said I'll take it.

Nice! I thought 44mag was overkill! What's that weird button in front of the cylinder?

That is the extra cylinder lock. The recoil is too potent for the standard linear locking system, and it can unlock under recoil.

That bit prevents it opening.

That is for charging elephants and T72 tanks right?

Yup. Honestly I don't think Elephants are much of an issue, but I do want to get some monolithic solids (machine turn some brass heads?) for the rogue T-72's.

This will mainly be a paper puncher but it is also destined to be a Warthog whacker.

He lives in S. Africa. Just walking down the streets in certain areas is enough of a reason for that hand-cannon.

It's South Africa, not Jumanji.

It's on record as being a target pistol. The "sport" I'm registered to shoot in does 10m, own time, 5 round bullseye targets.

I'm either gonna download some .454 brass or some .45Colt brass to target pistol levels and do that with it.

The law also says you can use any legally licensed firearm for any legal purpose, so yes, I could CCW it if I wanted to. It will also be used for hunting, mainly Warthog.

Should be fun for hogs.

Taurus is wholly underrated in my opinion. They make good pistols at a fair price. Raging Bulls are very artistic to me for some reason, like a Colt Python or a 686 Smith. Their own little sub genre of revolver style that nobody has topped.

I know.  I just like referencing Jumanji as often as possible.

Jumanji rocks.

In case you can't see from those pics, this is for some scale.

That's my 1911A1 Commander above...... this thing is a <KLR> cannon!

Thanks! They're semi custom jobs. Made by a company called 5 Star (http://www.5starfirearms.com/) They make odd caliber speed loaders for odd weapons.

The most common guys don't make 5 shot speed loaders for .454, for example. These guys make everything you can think of. They are the only guys I found who make speed loaders for the Raging Bull series.

Machined from billet aluminium. I haven't used them yet, but in testing they seem to work. If you need more than 5 rounds of 300 grains at 1600fps then these are perfect for topping up with.

At $25 a pop they aren't throw away though :)

I can't post my video's because they are all NSFW-Language :)

It is a MONSTER, but actually shooting it isn't as bad as I thought it would be. 300 grains at 1600fps gets your attention, and my follow up shots will be rather slow, but it is a great gun.

The gun itself appears to have plenty of mass to help with recoil. How much does it weigh?

Heavy is good, heavy is reliable. If it does not work you can always hit him with it.

That six pound piece of junk stuck in your trousers would do more damage if you fed it to him.

The sound wasn't as bad as I was expecting it to be. I did make sure to choose an uncovered firing point, just in case.

It's a hunting gun, so anything up to about a Kudu is fair game for this round. It will also make a nice SD gun when hunting with other weapons. While attacks on hunters doesn't happen often, it is something to keep an eye out for.

I'd use it if I was hunting something like this:

I can't help but feel like that's just a waste of a fine beast. Never had an issue with hunting but that just seems off to me.

Just saying, if I was hunting something that large, that hand-cannon may be useful.

I don't know if I agree though. I think I would take a crack at Red Stag hunting if I was given the opportunity.

Yeah I know what you meant and that wasn't a dig at you or anything.

I was just surprised at my response to that picture considering I've never been bothered by hunting before. Just a damn nice deer is all.

Yup, that's more or less what it is meant for.

I get where you are coming from Scotch, I'm not a trophy hunter so I don't get the attraction to knocking of the biggest/best rack. I am, however, a meat hunter, so I do get the idea behind the best return on investment for your hunt. The more meat the better. And the guys with the biggest rack are often the best fed. This pistol will damage less meat than some rifles, but then it lacks the range of most rifles.

This pistol delivers more energy to the target than a Desert Eagle, and at one stage was the most powerful handgun around. I've gotten a couple of recipes for some nice powder puff loads for it for plinking. That being said, the powder puff load for a .454 is the same as a decent loading for .45ACP :)

So it's basically for when you need to shoot a T-Rex in the front yard, from the backyard, through your house.
