Hi,

I have a 98 Custom that's all stock except for a J&J barrel. After getting home from college, I broke out my gear and spent a day playing paintball with some friends. Midway through the day I went for a CO2 refill, but when I re-attached the tank my marker vented a large amount of CO2 through the barrel and bolt.

I ended up giving up on using my marker the rest of the day, and the field staff graciously replaced it with a rental for free.

Today I had time to open everything up and take a look:

There was something pinched in the valve:

I pulled it out:

It's an o-ring:

I managed to wrestle the stupid pin out and remove the valve internals. As I took out the rear block, another o-ring literally bubbled out of the valve.

The manual shows two o-rings in the valve, both type SL2-25. I think what I'm seeing is both of them, with one of them having sloughed off a layer or something.

I've purchased replacement rings, and along the way learned that a common maintenance practice is to drip some oil into the ASA (CO2 receiver threads, right?) and then dry fire a few times to distribute the oil to the valve. Will doing this help ensure that I won't be replacing the rings again next summer?

Also: Would compressed air help at all from a maintenance standpoint? I've considered getting an air tank.

Thanks,

About a year ago there was some valves that received the wrong durometer valve o-rings.  This is only a problem when using co2 & was corrected.   Those markers have a two year warranty, so if you have any other issues contact Tippmann for a free repair.  Good job getting that valve apart!

Awesome, good to know x)

I ordered four replacement Tippmann SL2-25s, and got two of them installed a few days ago. Should be going out to test it here in a few days!
