This was my day today...

only thing that's "mine" is the 20 gauge 870 on the right.  Next to that is my dad's over/under.  On the left are my brother's guns.  Glock 17, ooold remington 1911, and the lever action rife.  Not sure what kind of rifle specifically, but it shoots 35mm rounds and he has a heck of a time finding ammo for it.  The 1911 and lever action came from my grandpa via our late great uncle.   Leaning on the wall behind those are a bunch more 12 guages of various makes and models and a .223 AR that we didn't get to shoot because the brother of the guy's farm we were at never showed with the ammo.  Oh well.  Fun day of mostly trap shooting, playing a game we call Annie Oakley

They are Winchester PDX1's, 3 double ought buckshot pellets and a rifled slug behind them.

My grandpa shared his thoughts on home defense rounds yesterday... for handguns, you take a hot razor blade to slice the lead a bit.  For shotguns, you load your own rounds with 8 buckshot pellets, top that off with a bit of other shot, and top all that off with onion juice.  He said that if he gets away you can just tell the cops he'll be the one showing up at the hospital with a pretty bad case of gangrene.

I love those old stories that he has.

This is my collection minus a Mini-14, Kentucky rifle, and 10-22 international.

Most of them serve a purpose, but one of the purchases might have been heavily influenced by the movie "Snatch".

Hmmm . . . I'd have bet almost anything they would have been 1/4" crushed potine pellets suspended in maple syrup.

Got a chance to shoot my SR556 and M1 over the past few days. Both are EXCELLENT firearms. I only have 3 complaints about the Ruger. The firing pin retaining pin that came with it was to big and protruded from the side of the bolt carrier. About 10 minutes with a vice, hammer, and some files fixed that issue. The second complaint is that the aluminum hand guard gets hot; FAST. 60 rounds in and it was almost too hot to hold. I'm going to have to get some rails and heat shields put on ASAP. Thirdly, the front site that came with it does not adjust in increments. On a milspec sight, there is a pin that allows you to adjust the elevation in "clicks". X number of clicks = Y inches at Z meters. The Ruger's is just a straight screw, so there was a lot of guesswork to figure out how much to turn it to get the desired result. Other than that, shot like a dream. The Burris Fast Fire 3 site was a bit of a pain to zero, but she works like a charm now.

Then there is the M-1. Semi-auto, .308, smooth as silk with an ever so satisfying "PING" to let you know you just sent 8 rounds down range. What more can I say about it?

I actually think I still owe Robocop some pics of a pair of antique .22's my dad acquired, I forgot until I saw this thread.

Anyway, no pics for now but-

Springfield Champion Loaded 1911 .45(Nickel)
Springfield Micro 1911 .45(Duo Tone)
Glock G36 Slim .45
Winchester Model 94 (70's model) .22
Remington 700 VLS heavy barrel .308
Remington .22 bolt action from the 20's
Maadi AK-47
Savage .16 bolt-action heavy barrel

Those are my personal guns, between my dad and I (I don't keep my guns where I live) there are far more.

Special thanks to Ceesman, he hooked me up with the barrel, handguards, gastube, and stock. All of that is original Colt M16 surplus. The upper is USGI made by Martin Marietta (before they merged with Lockheed) and the lower is LRB. I used Brownells epoxy paint on the lower to try to get it to match. It matches better in person but not great.

Is that a Carlsons? Is it removable? What brand of sights are those?

Shoots nice.  I only shot maybe 10 rounds through it so far.  1 FTE and one failure to ignite, but the rounds were from, probably, the early 60s.  We found them in my grandpas basement and he was a major pack rat.  As far as I know, they all have threaded barrels.  Mine does and it was the base model at the store.

Haven't had a chance to get over to my dad's for a proper family photo of our toys, but here's a few I have on my PC-

70's model break apart Belgium Browning .22-

Winchester 94/22

Glock .40, AR-15 which I no longer own, Maadi AK, and my Remington 700 heavy barrel-

Glock G36 .45 and my Springfield Champion-

I'll try and get a group roundup later this week.

Rather than create a new thread, I figured I'd bump this one.

Finally got around to headspacing my FAL the other day. All the instructions said to clean everything really well (which I did) and then remove the firing pin and extractor from the bolt. Firing pin is easy. Spring tension on the pin itself holds it against a pin which isn't in very tight (as it has the spring tension to hold it in there and the bolt carrier to prevent it working its way out). The extractor however, seems to require special tools to remove as it's the 'newer' 2 piece construction which is better for part life, but a PITA for servicing.

So, I'd put it off and put it off because I didn't really want to eff around with the bolt that much, but then I took a look at my go/no-go gauges from Clymer. They both have firing pin and extractor cuts on them, so no need to remove ANYTHING! Really lucked out on that as I wasn't looking forward to paying $40 for a tool I'll most likely use once or twice in my life.

Anywho, got it all headspaced, ordered the appropriate locking shoulder, and should have the final pieces in place by the end of the week to go for a test run!

I'll post pics once the shoulder is in place now that the flash hider is on and I have mags.

After a few rounds of sporting clays with my 20 gauge 870, I decided to "upgrade".  I went to my local shop... which I probably won't frequent... and found an older model 1100 for $400.  Price was right for me, and I needed a new to me 12 gauge for both clays and pheasant hunting.  I went hunting today and used my brother's 870 12 for most of the day... got to only put one shot through the 1100.  First time shooting a semi-auto shotgun and it's going to take some getting used to.  Less kick than my pump, but more momentum to control.

anyway... here's some pics.

Yep. She knows. She doesn't know how much it cost. I, "traded parts for parts" (out and out lie) so she's cool with it.

Also, I've repeatedly suggested "Gareth" as a boy's name if that's what our kid is, but she keeps shooting it down. She says it sounds "Viking" and I calmly reply it's Welsh and a damned cool name.

My next purchase will probably be another black powder. I'm thinking cap-n-ball revolver, and I'm a fan of Remington New Armies. Probably a nice stainless frame.

I could snap a pic when I get off work, but it's a bone stock Golden Boy. The action is butter smooth, but I haven't had a chance to shoot it. For the $399 at Academy, the fit and finish is fantastic. It just feels like it will last. Can't wait to plink with it.

Yeah, $400 is just too much for me to justify a .22LR, especially when I can pick up very good store-brand models (Sears, Montgomery Ward, K-Mart, JC Penny's branded stuff) for ~$100 or so these days.

I mean, I can pick up 2 mosin Nagants and a TTC for that money.

Doesn't mean I don't like them, just can't shell out that kind of cash for them. I love looking at the Henry Repeating Arms catalog, but always cringe at the MSRP line.

I love my Henry. I have a Golden Boy as well, and it has treated me well. The only thing I don't like is the rear sight, but I'm going to upgrade that at some point. If you fire shorts, you really can't hear the thing fire. I wish they made a side-feed 38/357.

Also, its made in the PRNJ so that's a plus for me. I know people who work at the factory.

If you'd so much as clicked "play" you'd know right away. It's a real Romanian TTC, not the knock-off Yugo one or the new manufacture 9mm Zastava one. Yugos (Zastava) won't accept standard TTC mags and didn't have an external safety. So for import, they had to add one in place which meant butchering the original firearm. Cugir in Romania had external safeties from the start. So I went with the TTC instead of the M57.

I have crappy Internet service in the sticks. Don't take it personally, yo.

I kinda want to CCW a Torkarev, but I've read they're unsafe with one in the pipe. Also 7.62x25 is hard to find.

The original TTs were unsafe with one in the pipe, but not the TTC (The Romanian ones). They were engineered with a trigger-blocking safety for that very reason.

As for ammo. It's readily available now. Prvi Partisan and S&B have been manufacturing Boxer-Primed brass-cased FMJ ammo for them since the ban on the importation of the surplus (steel core) stuff.

Just remember, 7.62tok penetrates like a mo-fo. Even the non-steel stuff will defeat a type III-A vest.

Case in point:

It's a minute-eighteen, worth watching.

That said, I've got 100 rounds of pre-ban Czech steel core coming my way this week. It'll be saved for extenuating circumstances....

I had a couple of the safety modified TT's, ammo wasn't terrible hard to come by but that was 4 or 5 years ago.

I miss them and will likely buy another-they're a ton of fun to shoot and the fire ball from the barrel is pretty tough to beat. Especially considering I paid under 200 bucks for the pair.
