The hey days of this forum are gone as with many of the members. We have all moved on to other things as we age. From the old OMHW days to today we have grown and found other needs in life. I still miss the September trip to Mecca (TWC) and the three days of fun as friends gather for all the usual idiocy we were known for. I went alone a few years ago, recognized a few here and there, but was not what I expected...just wandered, a few memories, and closed another chapter in my life. I miss those days, but I know they will probably never return and have moved on. Right now my Motocross friends fill the role of what OMHW was, as sometimes the silence is deafening here on the forum. -------------

I remember my first time on the board several years ago after picking up a used SL-68II with a slightly broken feed neck asking for advice on fixes to which the replies were mostly JB Weld. Didn't come to T&O for a long while as it appeared to be lacking in paintball and everyone flirting with Sporx. I was always in the maintenance or upgrade forums. Remember when the big debate was between the Lapco Bigshot or the J & J Ceramic barrels. Good times. Now all the tweeners of the day are finished with college with lives, jobs and kids. Funny what time does to people. -------------

I'm in the process of making plans to play soon and I am organizing my gear. Mech the cocker soon maybe, finish the 98 project, something crazy for the spyder? , stare at the impulse and it's goodness. I've been hitting many of the top pb forums recently and things seem real dead everywhere. |

I figure we're in one of those 'ebbs' of the 'ebb and flow' cycle right now. Many of us are in the midst of major life changes, and once the dust settles on them, I expect you'll see many of the old hands ask themselves "I wonder what Mother is up to these days?" True- some will be gone for good, and I don't think we'll see the usage as thick as it was a few years back, but I do believe we're just in a lull right now. ...we'd better be anyway. I don't have any other friends. ------------- ? |

Paintball is still alive and well overall, but the wealth of information for new people coming into the sport, or people having issues with markers is just so broad these days, that you don't see much new traffic in the forums anymore. Add in the fact that all of us old timers are getting jobs, having kids, etc. and have less and less time to play (if any) and it just slows down. Most of the post-split OMHW guys simply got out of paintball and into real firearms as a hobby because their sons and daughters all grew out of the sport and took an interest in shooting. We had a game at Pepprdog's farm one year where the guys played one game of paintball and took a break. During the break a couple of guys pulled out their .22LRs and started plinking and that was the end of it. Our yearly game at Pepperdog's is now what we call "Blastfest." A lot of people like Shorty don't have access through their work computers either, which puts a dent in things, and Facebook finished off the nail that the IRC channels started putting in the coffin for people from here staying in touch. I still play. I didn't get a chance to get out last summer, but will this summer as I have people from the school where I work interested in going out to play. To me, there's still nothing like hearing those first shots go whizzing by and the "put-put-put" of your own shots leaving a J&J in the opposite direction. I'm no longer able to do the straight-up sprints to the objective thanks to chipping my knee cap doing a bunker slide a few years back, but I can still run a tapeline like a beast. ------------- <Removed overly wide sig. I remember when I first joined up here it was a dream of mine to make to TWC and meet the OMHW crew along with everyone else.
At least I got to play on my college team with a good group of guys for the last few years that I was in it. After I graduated, I decided I was done with competitive paintball and didn't really know anyone who was into it just for fun any more. Sold all my gear a while ago... in fact I sold my etek to detrevni I believe.

Good to hear everyone has seemed to mature and move on. Looking back on the amount of money spent on gear is ridiculous and I kind of regret it except for the memories made here and on the field Whats everyone up to in life? Personally I'm getting married this summer, finished my HD mechanic apprenticeship, getting ready to buy a house soon and make a drastic career change. So, you pretty much hit the nail on the head about the majority of topics we discuss here now.  Doing well myself. Had our first kid a month and a half ago. Just dealing with the combination of sleep deprivation, home repairs, and work. I only have 5 more weeks until I'm off for the summer though, then it's just sleep deprivation and home repairs I'll have to deal with. I don't regret the money spent on gear, what I didn't make back selling it was well spent on fun. I finally finished my undergrad degree and am waiting for that piece of paper to get here, working for my parents trying to make the family business succeed for the moment, taking pictures, gettin into simracing and saving up for a car. |

Lots of cops on here now, 1 fighter pilot in training. I'm currently working at residential treatment center for adolescents. Debating on whether I want to pursue a degree in counseling, or stay on the floor. But I might end up moving up north and opening a new treatment center that would integrate teaching self reliance such as farming, rising life stock, learning a trade, with the 12 steps. My lead spitting collection has slowed, my last purchase was a 10/22 Take Down. I would like a dedicated 22 upper though. |

I'm working and about to start full time school again. Halfway through an accounting degree (still, I think I was in the same spot in my degree two years ago) and finally into a job that I enjoy (even if the pay suck) after a few dude that left me unemployed for a year. Otherwise, I've sold all but a couple of my guns (my 1911 and Henry Golden Boy aren't going anywhere hopefully) and three guitars (kept my SRV, LP, and one of my Mexican Strats) in the name of slimming down my housing impact. Just had too much stuff I never used. Sold my 71 Chevy Truck (sadface), sold my turbo kit for the Mustang (have a 5.0 now so no use), basically I work, go to school, and on rare occasions crank up a video game. Kind of fell off the sobriety wagon but I'm not binge drinking anymore and have become quite the fan of some local craft beers (Dogfish Head owns my wallet.) Usually every couple of weeks I'll have a couple IPA's while I work on my car and rarely I'll go out with friends and have a few, but I'm fortunate to have escaped the alcoholism issues I used to have the last time I posted here. I think that's pretty much everything I've done in the last two years. Been dull, but honestly I like that. Just nothing really post worthy on here, I do lurk though. -------------

Congratulations on your first child Tallen. Hope you bought a Savage rascal the day they were born for when they are older. No current gun pics but. SS browning buckmark camper, 9mm Norinco 1911( current project gun), 1974 Winchester 94, old pre serial number Cooey 64, marlin XT22, Weatherby Vangaurd in 300 Weatherby mag dressed up in a tan spider webbed B&C stock and a custom muzzle brake, H&R 20 gauge single shot, 1954 Tula SKS(the 180$ workhorse). Working on getting a Benelli semi 12 gauge for goose hunting and I REALLY want a good SS large bore revolver in 454 or 460. Need a new truck before getting the shotgun and revolver though. ------------- |

Oh, also, there is a solid rotation of gun threads, kid threads, job threads, and rebs bad luck threads. It is the norm here. More gun threads than not though. I find it funny how one is 500% more likely to get into guns if they played paintball a lot as a kid. -------------

I'm an assistant professor of new media at Florida Gulf Coast University starting in the fall. I'll teach Intro to Journalistic Writing, Writing for a Mass Audience, and News Reporting. I'm excited about a career in higher education. I think there has always been a nagging part of me that wanted to be a teacher, and being a professor feels like what I should be doing. Also wrapping up my PhD from the University of Florida. My dissertation looks at misinformation spread and endorsement tools on online social networking platforms. Didn't find what I set out to find, but still found cool stuff none-the-less. If I don't mess anything up I will be a doctor by August. Not one that can give out medicine though, which is a bummer. I still browse here once a week or so. It's mostly all about guns now, a topic on which I have nothing to contribute. As the years have gone by I've progressively gone from being neutral on the issue to being rather anti-gun, but I suppose that happens. I've gotten into hiking a bit. Been trying to do the trails around Florida when I get the chance. I've gotten into gardening as well, but I'm moving into a second-floor apartment in Fort Myers, so that hobby will be put on hold. Still play Minecraft as a stress release. I don't know, it's hard to talk about hobbies much anymore. The dissertation controls everything I do on a regular basis aside from reading more of the ASOIAF series and drinking beer in a swimming pool, which is what I tend to do every Saturday. |

Sure did. It's my go-to semi, and I still use it from time to time, but paintball hasn't lately been the driving passion it used to be for me. I still have around 20+ gun from the 1980's and up, but they never get field time. I just don't have the initiative or motivation to sell them. These days all my money goes into motorcycles. I'm at 3 now. 2005 Honda VTX1300R, 2011 Triumph Bonneville T-100, 1971 Suzuki T-350 (two stroke!).

I actually thought about not playing anymore but then decided I'd given up too many hobbies already so I went out for the first time last weekend. (The weather prior wasn't conducive to having fun--rapid weather changes annoy the pins in my back.) I had the oddest day . . . everything went right!
I've gotten to the point where I don't sell my old stuff; I parted with a couple of markers in the past that I really wish I hadn't let go so I avoid that now by hoarding. Plus, it's occasionally fun to bring out stuff like the F/A and leave it on my table to make people stare and ask what it is. -------------

Last time I went to play, I noticed that most of the local rec-ball players aren't exactly tactical geniuses. This seems to be the case at MOST of the fields I've visited in the past few years. It's like the paintball IQ has suffered in recent years and we've gone back to the days of thinking that there's a completely separate set of tactics for rec ball vs other game types. I've had several Mack-type moments in the past few outings where I've run the tape and just slaughtered a whole team virtually on my own from the flank. I like to think that I'm educating new players to keep their heads on a swivel and not get tunnel vision when I do so. I'm good about it though, I don't lay into them or bonus ball them, and I'll even give the opposing team pointers on how better to defend against me the next round. It's no fun slaughtering guys and gloating, because then they're just going to go home. Even the refs these days aren't like we were 10 years ago. So few have any real knowledge of how different markers work, etc. It's weird. ------------- <Removed overly wide sig. Tsk, you know better.> |

Go out there with an Autococker or Automag and watch minds be blown. Last year, I went out with my mech Black Magic and you should have seen the number of people who were wondering "what kind of gun is that?!" and "who makes it/where can I get one?!" Autocockers are coming back. Everyone but the newest players know them at my field, and there is a large pump presence as well. A few third-parties are producing new 'cocker parts, and Empire released the Resurrection last year. They're not the mystery they once were. triggerhappy1 had a sweet blue xmag. I really wanted it, but he ended up selling it. If only I knew, I would have bought it and put it in storage... I would post a photo, but it is too old that it isn't hosted anymore. I will probably always use my Ion. With the evil barrel kit, there really is no reason to go with something else. Haven't seen my gear in over 2 years though, with it being almost 1k miles away. I miss this sport. Why must life be so expensive?

I left paintball with one of my dream markers, blue acidwash phantom VSC, traded the ion for it, played with it a handful of times, sold it and put the money into a camera. Currently have my dream camera (Hasselblad 500c), considering selling it...

Oddly enough, I acquired my dream marker shortly after I played my last game of Paintball. It's not that I decided it was my last game, moreso I...just stopped going. It's funny in a way, as I don't even talk to any of my friends who I used to paintball with the exception of one on occasion. My dream marker was always a Crosman 3357 for the oddity. I remember I had a Crosman 357 BB gun that I was going to turn into a 3357 with a new barrel and some filing, but I think I found a 3357 cheap on eBay and then found a bunch of extra cylinders on MCB for cheap. Or the whole thing on MCB. I know the extra cylinders are super rare and hard to get. I still have the extra barrel too. Oddly enough, the 357 was considered a legal handgun in the PRNJ at the time. So I would have needed a firearms permit and a pistol permit and be 21 to buy one. EDIT: I logged into MCB. I also need to get rid of my Christmas sig here.
