...where people posted quite frequently. This forum was provided by Tippmann and was home to thousands of conversations about paintball and other miscellaneous nonsense. WHERE DID THAT PLACE GO? I take a few years off to be all adult-like and start a career and this place is now a ghost town compared to what it was when I left.
What did I miss? What has everybody been up to in the last 5 years?

Everyone took time off for adult-like things.
For me the last five years have found me two kids, and two career changes. A lot of us are still here, haunting or just checking in. The place isn't dead, but the core of the members have moved on or found out that adulthood brought with it less free time than we'd thought. And, the dynamic of the sport has changed some, so as the old hands went out, new ones didn't replace us.

I don't know if it's the dynamic of the sport that has changed as Reb said, so much as the dynamic of social media. This is a post-Facebook/PBNation world we're living in where people are more apt to ask general paintball questions in larger all-encompassing forums and use Facebook to keep in touch with people who they talk to outside of the paintball world. We still get a few folks here and there asking about newer models and upgrades, feast or famine where those are concerned.
As for the core people, most of us have more pressing events going on in our lives. I got married, bought a house, and had a kid. Whale is perverting... errr... I mean teaching young minds, Choop gave up on being a Canuck and moved to Commiefornia and is busy taking our jobs, etc.
The OMHW guys pretty much gave up on paintball except for EE, myself, and one or two others. They don't even use their own forum that much anymore and stay in touch with e-mail chains for their yearly event.
Shorty's access to here is blocked from work (stupid gov't) and raising a kid an keeping a 1940's house in good repair is taking up all of his non-work time.
Heck, most people on here don't play anymore, or only get out once in a blue moon, but we still come on for socialization.

I still play and lurk every so often.
Got divorced in June of last year, and bought a vacant home that was pretty trashed, and have spend the past 9 months redoing it, have about 6 months of work left on it I think...
I still play paintball, and started writing paintball articles for paintball online and Tippmann. Latest one is about paintball snipers! heh, heh, heh!

Are they holding you captive in the dorms? Lol. I majored in information technology and minored in computer science. I got an internship during my last year at NJIT which turned into my first full-time position after graduation in 2010 and I've been in web development ever since. I've also started branching into mobile app development at work which is pretty cool. I registered a business name and have plans to make some apps but it's hard to find time to work on prototypes between work, keeping the house from falling apart, etc. so that hasn't really gotten very far yet.
I had to take a break from paintball (and here) to focus on school and getting my career started. I bought a house a few years ago which sometimes feels like a full-time job in itself but I love having my own place. Now that things are somewhat stable I'm getting back into paintball. So much has changed since I stopped that I was completely lost in terms of what companies still exist and who the top brands/products are.
I recently joined a scenario team and have been going to a lot of big games. I have to dial it down a bit since the house needs siding which is very much not free but I still make an effort to hit the field at least once a month.
I actually live about 10-15 minutes from NJIT now and occasionally I'm at the school for meetups and whatnot. They built some interesting stuff over by that Greek village or whatever they call it.

2 kids now? Good for you. I think I stopped coming on here shortly after you had your first. I definitely agree that adulthood came with less free time than expected and I haven't even made it to parenthood yet. My house was built around 1913 and even though a ton of work was done to it before I moved in it just seems like my to-do list never ends.

Yeah, facebook has definitely dominated online communication over the years. I've seen a ton of paintball related groups/pages there and my team does everything through facebook. Having worked for a company that operated a few forums, I totally get why forums seem to be fading. It's a pain to keep out spammers and it's a lot of work to maintain, not to mention you have to pay to store all the posts and support many users. Or you can setup a facebook page for free and just make sure nobody posts anything foul. For a business, that's a no-brainer.
I initially scoured Meetup when I wanted to start playing again but most of the groups either weren't very active or just weren't what I was looking for. I did meet somebody on there though that knows nearly everybody involved in scenario paintball and she actually introduced me to the team I joined so I guess I'll count that as a win.

I completely forgot about OMHW. I don't blame them for ditching their forum but going from there to email? Why not a private facebook group?

I totally sympathize with the old house time-suck. I've heard it comes with the package when buying a house but buying an old house makes it exponentially worse.

Seriously. I nearly crapped my pants when I came on here and saw that there were only like 1 or two threads in T&O that had a post from the last few weeks. After all the other paintball sites I was familiar with had vanished I saw that and thought "no way, not the tippmann forum too". There is apparently still a pulse though, thankfully.

Sorry to hear about the divorce. It's unfortunate that nearly everybody I know that has been married has been divorced at least once but usually both parties end up better off in the end. And that house will surely keep you busy. My house wasn't trashed when I moved in and I never struggle to find something that needs to be done so your list must be a mile long. I have to say, even though doing work to a house is almost always very expensive it does tend to be very satisfying afterwards.

I did notice that you've started putting some content out there. Great stuff. I actually watched one of your videos about modding the A5 internals a few months ago and might try some of your suggestions. I used to be able to run my A5 at 600-650 psi with no issues but after not using the gun for years it can't seem to even get the velocity to 280 fps anymore let alone run at lower pressures.
I also tried using some Rap4 cyclone upgrades I bought years ago and have had terrible luck with that so those are coming back off. Getting that gun back to it's former glory has been an adventure to say the least, lol. Fortunately I have my ancient 98 custom and even more ancient 68 carbine as backups while I tinker with the A5.
I have to say, the 68 carbine may be super basic but I love that thing. The trigger is really heavy so long firefights can be rough but with an aftermarket barrel and HPA I was shooting +/- 2 fps accurate shots for hours with no barrel breaks after having all kinds of issues with my A5 that day.

Very nice. The counter space in my kitchen is literally about the size of the part between your sink and the oven, lol. I had to buy a portable kitchen island thing in order to have any sort of usable counter space. Eventually I'll probably need to do something more drastic but that's a massive bill I have no interest in paying at the moment.

Hah. I'm graduating in May thankfully. After one year in Redwwod, two in Laurel, and two in the UC I'm commuting now.
I haven't played paintball since probably 2009. I moreso gravitated toward guns now along with the rest of the forum it seems. I used to go to Paintball Depot in West Milford. It is still my 'local' field but I now live in both Hopatcong and the water gap because I'm going to school. I keep saying I would like to go to D-Day this summer.
NJIT is really investing in everything. I worked at the call center that harasses alumni for money so I was forced to know every detail of how they're improving.
Also, I too am ridiculously out of the loop with paintball companies lately. I have no idea who is high end anymore.

Cool, thanks Whale.
My stuff is pretty boring I think, but people seem to like it... Lol!
My ex hated paintball, and everything else I was ever involved in... So needless to say I've been enjoying my new found freedom! And getting to pick stuff myself has been a blast! As I've picked just about everything in my house so far!
But, I have a long way to go still, lots and lots of work. But, I like working on stuff like that so it isn't that big of a deal. I got my faucet, disposal, dishwasher and plumbing drain lines installed Friday night and Saturday morning. And took everything I owned in the kitchen out, and cleaned all the cabinets out (got them on craigslist for $900) and hadn't ever cleaned them up.
Got all my stuff put away along with all the fiancee's stuff as we emptied out her storage unit. So it was a crazy busy weekend. Now I'm selling my pool table, as I don't want to move it two more times... Lol! (it is in my sunroom currently, along with two pinball machines... I need them out of there so I can tear the floor up and put in ductwork and level the floor. I was going to put them in the basement, but it isn't finished yet, and I just really don't want to move it down there, then move it to build, and put down carpet, and then move it back in place... So I'm gonna sell it.
It is so strange to have a sink in my kitchen. I found myself headed to the bathroom to wash my hands when I was working in the kitchen... I forgot I had a sink right there! haha!
I took a trip up to PB explosion to play Nuketown, and it was SO MUCH FUN! You guys really need to try that sometime! I've also played a bunch of other fields around the country too. It is really fun seeing new places and playing paintball!

Good to see some folks still drop in every now and again.
I think most have grown up and moved on.. Shoot, I only popped in to ease the boredom of sitting at my desk after hours. I finally landed a process engineering job at the medical electronics company I've worked at for a couple of years. So basically I tell people how to do their jobs faster and more efficiently. Been bouncing from product launch to product launch for the last 6 months just trying to get my skills/knowledge up to try and move into that lead engineer role with an office instead of cube (and the big $$).
Just trying to make it that far before someone tells me I need to go to school... I really dont want to take out student loans to take classes as I've made it this far without ANY college education and know plenty of worse-off people with $100k plus in college debt.

This place kinda gives me the willies. I think about all the stuff and nonsense that we've been yabbering on about over the years and also that this place has been one of the few constants of the last 10 of them. I hardly even check in since I'm not interested in canning vegetables, trucks or guns (at least not in the anorak level detail you lot seem to be)
On the whole I'm still just bouncing around in life. I accidentally built a career in insurance though which I suppose is OK. But yeah. I'm older this place reminds me of when I used to play paintball and could sit for hours as a 16yo trolling with throwaway accounts.
Any of you ballbags in NYC?

Interestingly enough, I'm probably going to go play paintball again for the first time in a couple of years this summer. My old boss moved back to the area, and is jonzing to play after a long hiatus when he lived in Raleigh. Apparently the fields down there weren't happy with the fact that he'd play aggressive and basically shoot the other team all on his own.
Ought to be fun to get out and play with a good buddy again.
Oh, and I'm getting a promotion at work. Moving from a 500-600 person account up to a 1500+ person account. The best part? I'll have a minion to boss around! It's a two-manager account so I'd have and assistant manager under me. =D

I toss around the idea of going and playing some rec ball now and then, but I have no one to go with. Everyone that I used to play with is either half way across the country after they graduated, or still playing tourny ball which I have no desire to do any more.

For the past 5-6 years, I've just gone out solo and played with the walk-ons. It's just as much fun as playing with people you know. Hell, most of the time, you wind up working well with a couple of guys and run the whole field.

I went to Living Legends last weekend... Setup in the Tippmann Booth, and met just about every youtube paintball personality out there. As well as a ton of the legends in the sport.
It was amazing.
Best part was... My fiancee went with me, and loaded up all my paint in my pods and mags, so I could get back quickly into the game! Got to play side by side with AlabasterSlim! Saw Pistol Pete again, and Akimbo assassin. As well as Wolf and many many more!
Even played some magfed for a while with my TCR as we pushed all the way through the woods through all the camps kicking butt and taking names!
My team ended up winning the entire event! Go immortals!

It's nicer to see I have a well-paying job that enables my problems.

Good lord this place is dead. I had the last post, SEVERAL DAYS AGO.
Well, I guess I'll talk about paintball some more.
If you can get past the "made in Taiwan" thing, the Resurrection is an absolutely fantastic 'cocker. Simon did a fantastic job designing it back when he worked at Empire/Kee, and I'm glad to see new 'cockers on the market again. The trigger is a bit weighty, but it has this unique two-stage feeling that prevents short-stroking, so you can really lay on it regardless. It's also super smooth, and is the best stock trigger I've shot on a 'cocker. If it weren't for the weight, I'd call it the best shooting mech trigger, period. That said, I still don't really have an urge to swap trigger/sear springs or anything. The only mods I'd really like to do are purely cosmetic. Inception Designs licensed the Ripper body from Eaton and produced their own, official Ripper kit. More props to Simon for getting that going again, and I'd love to get my hands on one. I'd type up a full review, but it would echo all the other reviews online, so I guess I'm just filling the void here. It's of an impressively consistent quality.

Been busy. Checked in once or twice in the past few days, but it's crunch-time at work. Had 4 events in a single day on Friday, then went rafting on the Savage River in MD on Saturday. It was housework, video editing, and getting ready for more functions today.
Even the spammers have been quite (it's probably helped that I've banned entire ranges from China though).

Busy working. Today was my first day off after 13 days of working. 60 hour work weeks for the past 2 weeks. At least an hour of travel to and from work. Hour and a half of gym almost every day. I have things I want to get done this summer, but when overtime and double time are an option, I have a hard time passing it up when I would like to save some money for my upcoming semester.
Besides, I'm not a heavy poster in the first place and like scotchy, the topics aren't of interest to me or I don't have the knowledge for them. I check here regularly though. At least every other day.

This is more of a highlight reel set to some music. It was awesome and the second run was even better (more water, bigger waves and rapids) but my camera batteries conked out at the end of the first run....
It's nice having friends in the industry. Keeps the costs down as they provide the equipment and guiding, my buddy Jae provides the muscle, and I provide lunch.

I've been thinking a lot lately about getting myself back into paintball, even if not as regular as I used to. The Albany area still has some events, so I'd have to get up there, since all of the regulars I used to outlaw with are gone.
It won't be this month though, June has been locked up tight for me for a while now. I've got a total of two and a half days off this month, and I rearranged things to put them all together for a trip to the Adirondacks with a couple of buddies.
My job is going well. (I think so anyway) I'm still making mistakes, but I'm only three months into it. The year and a half I spent training and working part time didn't expose me to very much, so there are definite growing pains. I've also not stopped trying to get into the SUNY Police system. I just interviewed at a very local college last week that wouldn't require us to relocate right away, so my son could stay in his current school until we get things hammered out- there won't be any rushing around. I've really got my fingers crossed for this one, and one of the guys who say in on the interview told me "I think you did really well" when I left.

There is nothing out here, paintball dead as only one indoor and a really piss poor outdoor attempt is left, even airsoft died in eastern Nebraska and went to central Iowa. Sold all the paintball stuff except my original 68 Special, now on my I love me wall in Man Cave, and still have my high end KwA K4 Gas Blow Back airsoft as a plinker, can jack it up to 550fps, cheap shooter at 25m targets.
Retirement inhales deeply, sat is a Cowboy Action Shoot locally, got grand daughters into MX racing so I am pit crew, trainer, motivator, got a track here at the farm and they practice here a lot. Just trying to stay active and above room temperature.
BTW 13years on this forum saw a lot of changes, still miss the old days.............

So, looks like I'm getting that transfer to a larger unit. Have to go meet the client on Tuesday to get the go-ahead.
I'll go from feeding 550 or so each day to 1500. It's nothing hard, just more volume, but spread out over more time, so it actually winds up being easier. Especially given the budget we have for labor. I'll have an assistant manager under me for the first time in forever, so no more having to stay late nights for catering and stuff.
There should be a pay increase as well, but not sure what it'll amount to at this point. Nobody has told anyone at my current school yet, and I'm sure they won't be happy that they're losing me, but I'm bored there, and this new unit will help me practice my craft and hone my managerial skills much better.

I'm selling a couple of things on kijiji.ca - which is equivalent to craigslist - my '02 WRX hatchback and our motorhome. I should post all the lame-o inquiries but I'll mention a few special ones. Now if I'm buying something, I'll say something like, 'Hi, just wondering if your xxx is still for sale', some questions I might have, etc. The first response I got on my WRX, which was at 2:30am, was, '$3000, take it or leave it' ; that's it. I was asking $6,500, so I answered back, thanks for the swell offer, give me some time to think about it, if you don't hear back from me in a year or two I'm still thinking about it; no response. I have no problem negotiating a price, AFTER you come and look at it, until then, screw off. At 3:10am I got an offer for 4k, that's all the email said, 4k. I actually phoned this guy and asked why $2500 less, and he tells me that he has owned lots of subarus an mines overpriced, I ask him which subarus he's owned, which engine, etc and of course he knew diddly about subbies. So I ask him if he's still interested and he says yes, and arranges a time to come see it. I should have just ignored him but I wanted to meet this guy, so he shows up 2 hours early and was pestering my wife about opening the garage door so he could see it and take it for a drive. My wife phones me and tells me this so when I pull up I get out and tell him to take a hike. The best part was he had his dad with him, which wasn't an issue, but his dad proceeds to tell my what a pos subarus are, my car was over priced, etc, all with his proud kid smirking at me. It was so much simpler back home where the population was 15k, I knew lots of people, knew their vehicles, they knew mine and her in Edmonton with a million people it's a much different story.

Internet classifieds are a goldmine of weird encounters and weird people. A few months ago I was selling an old TV for cheap, and I start getting texts from an individual asking a lot about the dimensions and weight and whatnot. Not that weird, since it wasn't a flat screen, but they got oddly specific. Turns out it's a kid (~12 years old) who lived on the top floor of an apartment building without an elevator, and he asked if I could deliver it to him and bring it up there. Sorry, I'm not going to deliver a 60lb TV by myself up half a dozen floors for $40.

MY 'new' expensive hobby. Owner and pit boss, mechanic of 'Old Soldier Racing', the grand kids and Motocross. Have the practice track on the back field of our farm, increasing difficulty gradually for them. Parts, labor, go fast parts and gear are more expensive than I thought, but having fun.
I no longer 'race' competive, I just putter with the boys and do the 6 laps, last is still good when you are still riding. Had to sell off my vintage bikes, momma finally figured out I could get hurt far worse on a 82 YZ490J than my 13 CRF250X. And almost had my replica 76 RM370A DeCoster replica Suzuki up and ready. Both are now in England racing over there, got a great price for them, way, way over trade value at a dealer.

I've got a good buddy going through a similar trial. His fiancee was diagnosed with stage 4 nasopharyngeal carcinoma this past year and it had already turned into a massive intercranial tumor that was inoperable. Luckily an aggressive course of chemo and radiation seems to have done the trick, but they won't know until 3 months from now when they can finally run an MRI on her again and test for any lingering cancer cells. My buddy is a certified macho-redneck and he feels utterly helpless that he can't do anything for her except just be by her side. It's heartbreaking to see him go through the struggle of not being able to physically do anything, so I know what you must be going through.
I'll keep you guys in my thoughts and prayers.

I have a BA in Psychology, a MA in Educational Psychology and a Professional Diploma in School Psychology (MA+38).
I am currently working mostly with preschool aged children. Mostly, to see if they qualify for special education and related services (Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, and Physical Therapy). There is a lot of testing and paperwork with the job. I administer cognitive assessments (IQ tests) to students, individual counseling, group counseling, behavior management in the classroom, helping parents find resources, talk to administration and hope to get more services in the school, develop IEPs, etc.
For the most part, I do enjoy my job though it can get overwhelming at times.

I have thought about going back to get my Psy.D. There is a program that is kind of near by that encourages you to work full-time and attend school at night. It would take about 3-4 years to complete. I want to get more experience in my career and hopefully the district I am working at will help pay for some of it.
I am also considering going back to school to get my BCBA to get my behaviorist degree. That will take less time and be easier on the wallet and will make me more valuable.
