Who here makes maple syrup? I'm trying this year. So far I collected about a gallon of sap between a sugar maple and a mystery maple over one day. Unfortunately a sapsucker is draining my sugar maple. -------------

Don't you need some ungodly amount of sap to get any volume of syrup?

I contemplated doing this a couple of years back. The town I grew up in was famous locally for the maple syrup production, and a neighbor of mine used to tap all the trees along the road for miles and miles. However, I balked at the layout I would have had to make for the equipment to make it all. Maybe one of these days...I think it's kind of a fading art, at least around here...nobody seems to do it anymore. ------------- ? |
