I always thought it would be cool to have a thread with real actual pics of a gun's internals and how it goes together and that stuff. So I made one.

I know that Enos has his parts guide, and I know that there are manuals and stuff, but for some stupid people like me who suck at reading manuals (or are too lazy to read them) it is easier to just look at the real pictures of the gun.

Anyone feel free to make guides of any Tippmann guns that aren't already in here, or how to install any upgrades that aren't already in here.

____________________________________________________________ __

Here's my guide for my 98.

Down near the bottom of the page Baratak (Thanks a ton man!) posted a link to a guide he made for the A5, it's really elaborate, check it out.

____________________________________________________________ __

Here's my 98 custom and a short sumary and explaination of the parts and stuff.

Sorry for the HUGE files........

http://img21.photobucket.com/albums/v62/Maximilien/bolts_fa.jpg - Link to Picture

WAM! Here's my 98 in all it's glory.

I circled the bolts that you need to take out in yellow. I also circled the rubber cap on the cocking knob, you need to take it off too before you lift up the left reciever side (I learned that the hard way). You also need to unscrew the bolts that hold in your ASA or drop before you lift up the left reciever side. Make sure you put all bolts somewhere they wont get lost (in a bowl or plastic baggie works good).

http://img21.photobucket.com/albums/v62/Maximilien/98c_fully_assembled.jpg - Link to Picture

Here is the insides of it before I took out anything. Just a pic to show what it all looks like.

http://img21.photobucket.com/albums/v62/Maximilien/front_of_gun_thing.jpg - Link to Picture

Here's the front of the gun including the ball detent and front sight assembly. I had to take this one since the first one cut off the front of the gun. Notice how the ball detent sits in the gun.

http://img21.photobucket.com/albums/v62/Maximilien/internals_1_.jpg - Link to Picture

Basic stuff here. You will want to oil all these parts and their O-rings (except the ball detent). This is the exact position these parts should be in when they fit into the gun.

http://img21.photobucket.com/albums/v62/Maximilien/internals_2_.jpg - Link to Picture

Again, pretty self explainitory. To remove the endcap simply lift it up and let it kind of pop off the grooves that it sits in. Then you can remove the drive spring and guide pin, along with the cocking knob, buffer O-ring, rear bolt, and rear bolt guide. This is the exact position these parts should be in when they fit into the gun.

http://img21.photobucket.com/albums/v62/Maximilien/trigger_assembly_nc.jpg - Link to Picture

Basic trigger assembly (without sear and sear spring)

http://img21.photobucket.com/albums/v62/Maximilien/trigger_assembly_complete_.jpg - Link to Picture

Complete trigger assembly. If you ever need to take these parts out, it's a good idea to put them into a bowl or something so they don't get lost.

http://img21.photobucket.com/albums/v62/Maximilien/valve_bolts_.jpg - Link to Picture

DO ONT REMOVE THESE! These are the powertube bolts, you don't need to remove them for general maintainence or cleaning.

http://img21.photobucket.com/albums/v62/Maximilien/valve.jpg - Link to Picture

This is the powertube, it's what the powertube bolts hold in. You don't need to take it out for general maintainence or cleaning. To clean under it you can slide a shop rag or paper towel under the front bolt guide.

http://img21.photobucket.com/albums/v62/Maximilien/WHERE_THE_BALL_DETENT_GOES_.jpg - Link to Picture

This is basically just how the ball detent sits in the gun. I showed this just because a lot of peole put it in backwards.

http://img21.photobucket.com/albums/v62/Maximilien/where_the_trigger_pins_go.jpg - Link to Picture

Trigger pins alone.

As far as maintenance, all you really need to do is wipe down all the moving parts and the reciever halves, then oil them up again. Make sure to oil all moving metal parts and all the O-rings. Then, after reassembly, all you need to do is put a few drops of oil into the ASA and then dry fire without paint or a barrel a few times.

If anyone else feels like taking apart their guns and making a sort of  "3D guide" like I did, you can just post it here. That's the main purpose I created this thread and made it a sticky.

If this isn't "sticky worthy" just let me know, or a MOD can unsticky it.

*EDIT* I think I fixed it now.

Well, that was my intention in creating this thread, unfortunately, I don't own any Tippmann guns besides my 98. I was hoping other people would do like I did and make more "3D manuals" and post them here, that was my whole idea.

So anyone else who has time on their hands if you want to make a manual like I did post it here.

That would rock man.

jigglydude: Yeah, it's there for a reason, it keeps the rear bolt from slamming into the endcap. If you keep it out the gun will start to not recock. So, yeah, it needs to be there.

I have another 98 with a vertical adapter and xchamber installed in it. This thing is really old.

http://img21.photobucket.com/albums/v62/Maximilien/vertgun.jpg - Link to Picture

Here's a close up of the vert in the valve.

http://img21.photobucket.com/albums/v62/Maximilien/vert.jpg - Link to Picture

To install it, you need to first remove the valve bolts

http://img21.photobucket.com/albums/v62/Maximilien/valve_bolts_.jpg - Link to Picture   (These are the valve bolts)

After that, you need to take the steel briaded hose out of the valve, just unscrew it from the valve. Then, put teflon tape on the male threads of the vertical adapter and screw it into the valve where the hose used to be. After that, take the expansion chamber and teflon tape the male threads of it that will go into the vert's ASA, then just screw it into the vert. From here you'll need to do the hose connections, according to however your ASA is set up. Remeber to teflon tape evrything.

Good Luck, hope this helps.

There's the powerfeed. This is the only pic I could find, sorry it's not so good, if anyone has another pic of it, it would be great if you would post it up. You'll still need a hopper with the powerfeed, it's just a differrent kind of elbow for the hopper. It'll help the balls feed faster.

A Warp Feed?

If you're talking about a Warp Feed than yes, you still need a hopper, it alos needs to be electric. The Warp Feed relocates the hopper to sit near the trigger, instead of the top of the hopper.

Baratak, ty 4 the great pix, last night as I attempted to oil my gun i was surprised when several springs and screws shot in several directions. I lost a spring several times (the little 1 in front of the trigger), but thanx to my 20/15 vision (which i thanked God 4 each time )I found it half way across the room. But in the end, after much confusion its working again.....well I'll actualy find out tommorow. You definitely saved my But, thanx.

I had the same problem.  Make sure you have all the parts on one half of the gun, including the SEAR.  For some freak reason the halfs won't go together if the sear is on the opposite half than the rest of the parts.

Hi,

If you find your local copy and need it hosting give me a shout. I have plenty of space on a paid host and can spare some bandwith for fellow Tippmann users.

I am really keen to see it too as I am attempting to take my A5 apart for the first time tonight before a game on Sunday and as parts and service are near impossible to find here in the UK for Tippmann markers it's a bit of a nervous activity for me.

Wow, I never realized how easy it could be taking the gun apart. I've never taken the rubber end cap off of the charging handle so I've always removed the rear bolt and drive spring along with the left side receiver. Makes it a real pain to put back together.

Is there a certain way to take the rubber end cap off (i.e. using pliers) or does it just slide off?

A5 Internals

http://imageshack.us">

First off, the ball detent. Make sure when you put it in, it's facing the direction mine is.

Valve O-ring. This is located up inside the powertube where the arrow is pointing. It's important that you keep this well oiled or else it will cause the infamous leaking from the barrel.

Front bolt. If you put this in backwards, it will make cocking your gun a lot harder/impossible. Just make sure yours is facing the direction mine is and you'll be good.

Tombstone latch. This keeps your vertical adapter in place. I left mine off once and the vertical adapter slipped out of place and caused a leak, so just make sure it's always latched on to the adapter. I also recommend replacing the stock spring with a lighter clciky pen spring because the stock one makes it hard to unlatch.

Drive spring. Make sure the pin is placed inside it to keep it from bending. You can sort of notice the pin in the first picture.

Where may i find a replacement kit for those? I have my cyclone air system, well just shooting out 1-2 balls . then it jams.. or stops.. so .. i wanna make sure I got all my valve/orings covered before I move on and test other things.

Hi gang! I'm relatively new to paintball and I just bought (today, April 15th) my first gun from Tippmann, the 98 Custom. However, me being a newbie and all, I assembled it the way was most logic and...it won't shoot. I've played paintball before but I've never owned my own gun. So, I tried reading the owner's manual in detail and followed all instructions. I must be doing something wrong 'cause it just ain't working!  Now, I'll tell you what I've done: I've removed the packaging (duh) took it out, put on the CO2 canister and the paintball cartouche, and...that's about it. Does the canister come with CO2 in it? Do I actually have to put an 8v battery, as specified but the manual, 'cause there isn't any space for one. Anything else I might be doing wrong? If someone owns this exact gun, could they tell me how they got theirs to work? Thanks. (I'm sure it's nothing but a stupid mistake)
