A sight rail. Depends on the marker that you have.

For a Tippmann 98 or A-5, you need nothing.

I have an a-5. But wouldnt your mask get in the way, and make it hard to look through the scope?

Hes talking about a red dot, which projects a red dot on the target inside the sight. You dont need anything. |

Im getting a red dot aswell..You'll need an offset dove tail because your hopper will be in the way. If you get a lazer, you just need to adjust it, then look were the lazer is pointed to. I'd go with a red dot and an offset dove tail though if you're playing woodsball. |

There is so much drop with paintballs at different distance that you will never be able to hold your zero in play, and I doubt you will adjust your sight/scope for different distances. Either you can get used to holdovers (joke) or get rid of the optics and sight rail to open up your sight picture. The higher you put the rail off the barrel the more Point of Aim Vs. Point of Impact difference you will have when changeing ranges. Get used to looking down your barrel, it will serve you better. Who says A-5's arn't much good in speedball. They arn't great for it, but properly upgraded and outfitted they handle their own. It's not a pro competition every game. |

Occluded eye red dot sights are great for paintball because their purpose is to create a rapid sight picture, not to magnify one. However, to use them best for paintball does require a sight rail. There are more than one sight / scope mounting widths and you need to make sure you are buying a sight rail that will both fit your marker and fit your scope. The reason an occluded eye sight works so well is that you keep both eyes open. Your sighting eye superimposes the red dot onto your target though no red dot is projected. I just recently started using one again, though I loved mine when I started in paintball over 15 years ago. |
