    Posted: 15 September 2009 at 2:01am
My sleep schedule is so F'd.  Usually don't go to bed until around 4am and wake up at noon, and trying to go to bed any earlier than that is entirely useless.  Last night I laid in bed for over an hour until I fell asleep, and just now I laid in bed for an hour unable to fall asleep.  Anyone in the same boat / have remedies?  It just sucks having to wake up earlier than usual for something but I find myself unable to fall asleep any earlier than 4.
The desire for polyester is just to powerful.

melatonin. take it 30-45 minutes before you want to go to sleep. you can find it at walmart or a local health food shop or wherever, in the vitamin section.

use it to get to a workable sleep schedule and stop taking it. if you take it to long your body can stop producing it and make matters even worse.

i screwed my sleep schedule to the point where i could not fall asleep even when i'd been up 30-40 hours sometimes... stuff works wonders

I'm the same way.  After drinking and staying up late Thursday - Saturday, Sunday nights I can never get to sleep before 3-5am and I have to be up at 8:30 for class.  It doesn't help that normally I don't do well with less than 8 hours.

Over the course of the next day or two my schedule usually resets its self, only to be messed up again two days later.

I work on a rotating pattern.  1 month of wake up at 0430 Hrs (4:30 AM) usually to 2200 Hrs.(10:00pm.)  then rotate to 2 months of wake up at 1500 Hrs (3:00 PM) usually to 0700 Hrs (7:00 AM.)  It's a pain in the butt. No real fancy tricks that I have learned yet.
It sucks being antisocial alone.

I'm generally a pretty decent sleeper - I've always been the in bed early, wake up early type.  Now that school has started back up I'm having a hard time staying up anywhere later than 10:00 PM after going to bed no earlier than 11:00 throughout the summer.

mine got jacked the last weeks of summer when i was working 2nd shift.  I'd be up until 3-4 every night... sleeping until noon.  When school started and I had to be up at 6 was rough.

I get to sleep around 4-5Am, wake up around 10-12... It's not good for your body but as others have said it's not like you can just fall alseep when ever you want, and I don't want to try medication due to the risk of dependency so my best answer is this, and it usually only works for a little while...

You have to stay awake, when your up at 4-5 in the morning you gotta tough it out and stay up the rest of the day, around 10-12 PM you should be dead tired...
Even when I do this not a day or two later I will be up till 4-5AM, I think I need a night job...

I've been in a similar situation. I usually fall asleep at 4 and wake up around 1-2 on the weekends, but starting Tuesday I have to get up at 7 and have a tough time getting asleep the hours I want to be asleep. I usually end up staying up for an hour or two with lights off trying to fall asleep before I actually pass out. What I've learned though is that the night before, if I wake up early then usual (around 11), I'll be tired enough to fall asleep around midnight.
