With all the revival in scenario games. I propose that tippman bring back the SMG 68.

It IS semi or full auto and the clip loading was fun..with tippmans technological improvments a new SMG 68 would do very well.

removable barrels 10 shot short clip for snipers. I ideas are endless. With a sling it allows a commander to sling his weapon on his back but still be a very effective gun in a short fight...

Bring back the SMG68!!

I read somewhere a while back that there were some legal problems with the SMG. Probably wrong.

If you check that one paintball patent site (cant remeber the url...airsoldier...Haveblue...or somthing like that).

Tippmann made a drum clip for the SMG but never put it into production.

Now that Tippmann has started their Speedballish paintball like (Custom Pro), I think they should go for a more scenario oriented gun for their next.

First to play, last to stay. MN Militia.

No, youre right, there was some legal problems wit the SMG, it was the first and only marker that was capable to shoot in "Full Auto Mode" only.

And I do agree that Tippmann should bring out the SMG again but, in Semi-Auto only.

Having owned a SMG and used it, actually prefered the 68Special which was the grandchild of the SMG series, using the same reciever and operating system, only feed system was differant. The design required liguid CO2 to expand in the breech on release, was a total gas hog

The SMG/68Special recievers are cast metal, milled and expensive, where stamped recievers and composite plastics are now the norm.

Seriously doubt Tippmann will ever bring back the series due to cost and obsolete operating system, unless as a comemoritive/colector piece.

I still have some 68Specials left....check ebay

SMG-60 = .62 caliber, semi/full auto
SMG-68 = .68 caliber SEMI AUTO ONLY

however i guess the SMG-68 was easliy modifiable to select fire and some trigger components were interchangable between the two.

I don't think anyone would want to deal with stripper clips again. That was quite the design flaw.

heh, Redneck, at the time everyone was using pumps so I wouldn;t call it a design flaw.

Yes the sears were interchangeable and thats what allowed the 68's to shoot full auto.

They weren;t really select fire either. If you pull the trigger back halfway it shot, if you pulled it all the way, it was full auto.

I'm not to interested in the SMG-68s, but Factory F/As with the new cyclone feed would be pretty damn cool.

SMG was the first production full auto gun, but not the last. The Factory F/A was also mechanically selectfire.

Does anyone else know of any markers with a selector switch for semi/auto fire? Not includeing any of the Real action markers though.
