well...what can I say, I bought a smart parts ion. Now, I own a droid, G3 (in mail) Alpha black(I won it and its a great game for recreational woodsball), and a jole (jeff orr limited edition series 1), so Im not crazy or a sp lover (in fact, i dispise sp and its products), but this deal came up and I couldn't pass it up, I had to know if the hype was true.
well a guy at my feild decided to quit paintball and offered me all his gear for 200 cash, and I took it. I got an avatar mask, empire jersey, gloves, 3000 psi steely, liquid pod pack, halo, and an ion. For 200 it was a steal so I now own an ion with a blackheart board.
I will not spend a dime on this gun, I plan on selling it after using it for a bit, but id like to know as much as I Need To Know about ions and the blackheart board.
Thanks

wow I find it interesting that a lot of people hate the ion but most havnt even owned one or know enough to give a simple bit of advice? Kinda thinking that the sp/ion hate is just hype... well see if it is next time I go and play.  Oh does anyone know if you can take off that plastic crap on the gun, I want to see if I can get it on my droid...

I personally don't see why people hate them so much, they're a good solid entry level electro that has lots of potential. You can buy different bodys for them which really help out the looks department IMO.

don't put "that plastic crap" on your droid. and considering what i've seen on ebay i would say you could get at least 200. They won't give you the full 165+115 or whatever the blackheart is worth but if you put up the thing as a package with the tank and whatnot you could make a little bit of money.

See, I've shot Ions, helped with them, and they shot well. But, the 3 that
my friends had, are all gone for various problems. Probably user error.
That's another story.

See I just view the Ion as, a bad money pit. You keep upgrading to make
it slightly better, and by the time your done, you could have bought a
Droid. I myself would avoid them simply because they are everywhere. Its
wierd, but I like, have to have stuff that isn't seen everywhere, and is
kinda odd. Heck, I drive a purple Explorer.

And if you say you can change bodies to make it look special, look at
pricing. I'd rather have a Fusion.

I bought into the hype not very long after they came out.  Picked one up and never had a problem with it.  It is still stock with the exception of a drop and a clamping feedneck.  I use it when I play speedball or when the A-5 is acting up.  I'll keep it simply because I'll never see a return on the investment if I try to sell it.

I think people avoid Ions because even though they are extremely upgradeable and easy to maintain, they are money dumps. By the time you "max out" an Ion, you could have bought a good tournament level marker with the cash you spent on upgrading. Then when you try to sell it for what it's worth after upgrades, no one wants to buy. You'd probably have to sell it for less than or equal to what you bought the original marker for.

In a way, you can compare an Ion to an AK-47. Simple weapon system, easy to use, easy to maintain, but has literally no resale value because the market is FLOODED with them.

Edit: So to answer your question, sell it ASAP.

Keep it. It's a loaner/back-up for when your favorite marker eats it's own brain.
