I am getting back into paintball and need a good gun. Trying not to spend more then $350. With $350 I can get a Tippmann A-5 with Response Trigger plus all the other goodies like mask and air. I saw the Spyder Fenix there also. The gun itself with all that comes with that was like $230. Just curious if I should go with the Spyder Fenix that had all kinds of stuff on it or go for the Tippmann A-5 package deal as I stated earlier. Let me know your thoughts please cause I need help getting back into the sport. Thank you very much. |

Fenix isn't a bad gun, but if you plan on playing hardcore woods the A-5 RT is hard to beat. The lower profile of the Cyclone can be a tremendous aid, and with the RT you can pump out 15 bps without batteries for either your grip or your loader. And, of course, you can later add the Flatline, the king of woodsball barrels. For general/speedball use I might recommend the Fenix over the A-5, but if you are going hiking with your gun I would recommend an A-5 RT over just about anything else. My $0.02.

Well I prefer woods. I have never really played speedball, but the idea of a game being over fast like that cause you are on a small field does not do it for me. I know this is a Tippmann site, but I also know a lot of people on here have spoke against Tippmann too. Seems like the A-5 is a really good gun for now, then I can make a gun fund then save up. |

The Fenix is a quality gun, very speedball oriented, basically Spyder's flagship. I think the main thing I personally would consider is if you ever plan on playing tournaments...if so, forget the A-5 w/RT because the RT is illegal in 99% of tournaments. However, the reason I went with the A-5 is because of the fact that you can practically run over a Tippmann and it'll take it (yes, slight exagerration). I know I have a tendency to get a little careless when running around, diving behind bunkers and such. I snapped the reg. on my 'cocker which put me out for a couple months (not to mention money I didn't plan on spending!). A little more expensive than the 98 Custom, but I really dig the cyclone feed. That's just me though. |

I'd say go with the A-5, with the A-5 you can get a lot of upgrades it comes with a hopper and cyclone feed system which is nice. with sypder its hard to get any parts. and if you play in the woods with an a-5 with a few upgrades you'll dominate
