STALINGRAD SCENARIO

# Date : January 26, 2008

# Producer Battlefront Paintball

# Category : 1 Day Scenario

# Location : Hubbard, OH 44425

# Event Description :

STALINGRAD - Russian Operation Uranus and German Wintergewitter (Winter Storm)

The Year is 1942...

The Date is November 18...

It was less than 12 hours before the Russians would launch Operation Uranus...

The brutal power of over 40 divisions would be used in an attempt to surround Stalingrad and trap the German 4th and 6th Panzer Armies. If successful, the Russians would break the siege and, more importantly, destroy the Germans belief in the invincibility of their armed forces. To win this battle the Russians must surround and ultimately capture Stalingrad...and it won't be easy. The Germans will launch Operation Wintergewitter (Winter Storm) to relieve their trapped comrades, and even while surrounded they will be able to airlift limited reinforcements into the "kessel". To win this battle the Germans must capture and hold Stalingrad.

Each army will start this scenario in positions that approximate, as much as possible, the locations of the troops on the eve of the Russian counter-offensive. The Russians will have a very small part of the town being held with lots of troops, and reinforcing the city from across the Volga (Crab Creek) They will also have significant troops on both German flanks ready to attack. The Krauts will have many of their forces in Stalingrad positioned to try and finish off the city. They will be weak on their flanks and have some troops west of the city in reserve. The battle begins on "November 19th" with the Russians attacking and trying to surround the city. If the city is successfully surrounded, German casualties will head for Army Group Hoth to form Manstein's relief army for Operation Winter Storm. Some can be "airlifted" back into Stalingrad as reinforcements before Manstein attacks, etc.

There will also be "ammo dumps" located around the field with different colored smoke that can be used like artillery. It's tough to see if paint grenades hit troops but you can't hide from the smoke very well. We will use some colors to eliminate troops, some colors to prevent movement, white smoke will be used to mask movements, etc.

Should be quite a day...
