Ion is the easiest choice. It's quick and it wont hold him back even off the woodsball circuit.

Just make sure to factor in an HPA tank and hopper. Ebay has some good package deals.

Not unless you want to screw it up.

If you're intent on using that crap, get a Custom Pro E. You still need an electric hopper though.

Some fields have moved to filling HPA for less than CO2, but the tanks are quite a bit more expensive. A lot of it depends on your area, where you play, and where you get the fill. Example - there's a scuba shop near here that charges $1 per 1000psi, but another that charges $1.50 for a 3500psi fill.

Where i live if u do a walk on the air fills are free, so i just fill it up as many times as i can. but at my local pb store, they charged me 3.50$ to fill up a 72/3000. which is okay i guess. But i say go with a tippy. if he is playing woods, thats a good gun.
Setup:

That might not be a good idea.  They can be found really nicely upped for $300, but unless you're dad is more speedball oriented it'd be smarter just to get a mech.

2004 Prostock Autococker($200)Click here!
Palmer Stabilizer($88)click  here
20oz C02 Tank($18)click here

thats $306 but... whats $6 when your spending $300.

thats a good set up, and it wont have any problems with C02.

He probably needs a hopper, Panda.

EDIT: Is the $300 just for the gun? Does he have extra to spend on tank, hopper, mask?

the gun has to cost about $300 (he'll go over some if there is a good deal). He wants to buy a gun off ebay which should drop the price of a few higher end guns. he also wants one with some good upgrades of somesort.

Tippmann A5 and a 20oz co2 tank...cheap and reliable. Use the rest of the money to pick up a nice mask (Profilers are very nice, I'd recommend them)
