Good Stuff, Go with the brass barrel for sure. I think it would also add a little heat to the guns look by giving all the exposed aluminum a pewter/black iron type finish and then only the smallest chrome accents.

Yeah, I was thinking of wire brushing the aluminum parts really hard until they form kind of a layer of lumpy looking stuff. I dunno, I might still do it, Id like to corrode the aluminum somehow and make it look really old and antique when its all assembled and done, but I havent found any good way to do it. I might just haul a piece of aluminum into school and toss it in the sandblaster and see how much punishment it will take before it looks old and antiqued. |

Try salt to oxodize the aluminum. It does wonders to aluminum on snowmobiles You could put some gnarly scratches in the aluminum with a wire brush then salt it down. Definately on the list. I sandblasted the gripframe today, it took ages with the cloggy sandblaster at school but it looks awesome, really matte gray finish. Ill try the salt idea on a chunk of scrap and see how it works. Ive got some super strength ice-melt stuff laying around, Ill try mixing it with a bit of water and letting the part soak in it for a day or so. |

cold temperature anodize (Type III Mil-Spec) will give the aluminum a dark grey color , 28 Deg F , 15% sulphuric / balance DI water , will give great corrosion protection too . Looks real good so far ! |

I wouldn't soak the entire part for internals sake. I'd carefully wipe some salty water on the outter surface. Salt will pit the aluminum
