Hey guys,
So I'm fairly new at paintball, have been maybe 3-4 times. Currently using a Tippmann A5 w/ E-Grip, HPA tank (remote lined), with a 14" Apex 2 Barrel. I was just curious as to what upgrades (both internal or external) would be useful for either accuracy, noise reduction, or improve the efficiency. I mostly play fairly close quarters indoor fields as those are more predominant where I live. I know theres quite a few different internal mods to improve the above aspects, just curious as to perhaps which are more highly regarded and logical to do than others. As well, considering I play indoors mostly. After a few games I've come to realize that my Apex Barrel is quite large and cumbersome, especially for tight areas or trying to be quick. I know the flatline barrel is much smaller but I've heard bad things with it and close range. I was wondering if there were any good accurate barrels around the 12" range that would perhaps be more useful for my situation. My style is more of a light weight run and gun compared to having a big heavy gun or sniping. Thanks a lot! ![]() |

12" J&J would be perfect for the usage you're describing. Other than that it sounds like a good set up.

Consider polishing the internals. It helps cut back on O ring friction. It definitely made mine run smoother.

Most of us on here really like the J&J Ceramic barrel. It's pretty tried-and-true and is quiet, accurate, and can be "shot clean" should you ever have a break. I use one on every marker I own. From my FT-12 all the way up to my Autococker and Invert Mini. I'd second the polishing of internals. That'll help a little with efficiency and overall smoothness. Eventually, you'll probably want to regulate the airflow for better consistency with shots and increase tank yield, but it's not actually necessary. |

Can't go wrong with a basic 12" J&J Ceramic barrel. I have them on my 68-Special, SL-68II, Pro/Am, A-5 and 68 Automag. As far as upgrades for the A-5, I have the Cyclone Upgrade package on mine. It includes the Vortex Mod, Lightening Rod, Q.E.P.H. and Squishy Paddles. I've been able to reliably fire 20 rounds per second without breaks for years now. Haven't been to their site in awhile now and it looks like they've expanded their offerings for most all markers. I like what I have on my marker and have no complaints.

I've been an avid user of the J&J ceramic since I started playing a billion years ago.
One other thing you might look into is a lower profile hopper. I ditched the A-5 hopper I used to have, and use the slimmer X-7 hopper with mine when I get a chance to get out and play anymore. |
