ok so I just got a tippmann a5 pretty cheap and a couple of mods like electronic trigger and a couple of upgraded internals and flatline barrel, but what I need to know is, it came with a decent hpa bottle and was wondering if this is a compressed air gun only? or is it ok with co2 as the local paintballing centre don't mind me using all my own gear bar the bottle? and they only run co2? any help much thankful for!

HPA will give you better consistency in all weather conditions. CO2 compresses to a liquid in the bottle, that liquid can be "sucked up" inadvertently and cause wild fluctuations in velocity and accuracy due to its rapid expansion when the valve opens. HPA doesn't liquify when compressed to the level it is in the tank. It'll alway come out at the same volume and pressure meaning that even on the coldest days, or when you're shooting super fast, there's no wild fluctuation due to the propellant source.
