I have a choice to buy either a JJ 12 inch Ceramic for 30 bucks or a 14 inch Dye Titanium Boomstick for 75. Which one is quieter and how much better is the Boomstick? I currently have a Bigshot. About a week ago I noticed two large scratches inside of the barrel and I think that is screwing up my accuracy. And I really want a quiet barrel compared to the Bigshot. Edited by Boydster |

Well I think all in all, that the Boomstick is a better barrel. I would get the J&J however to save a few bucks. The J&J is a fine barrel, and I am very impressed with its performance. It's really quiet too.

Well, the boomy is way better. But you really arent going to see much of a difference between the two when you shoo them.

So the accuracy is pretty much the same? Not enough to tell a difference? Ok. Since the JJ is very quite and also has the teflon coating for self cleaning, I'll probably go with that. But wait... I just saw a new Flatline for 95 bucks. Hmmm.... I don't know. I want a quiet barrel but I really like the Flatline's distance--even if I do play speedball. And I would most definately choose Flatline over Boomstick so that is comepletely out of the picture. It's a 60 dollar difference here. Hmm... I already have a 'normal' barrel. Maybe the Flatline would be a good choice. I don't know. |

The FL is not a speedballer's barrle, but you can take the shroud off and lighten it up. I love mine, every tippmann owner should have one.

I know the Flatline isn't really a speedballer's barrel, but I don't play true speedball. It's more like rec speedball over a pretty big course. Longer than a normal barrel's reach and even a Flatline's reach. I guess it could suit the style of playing I do. I usually buy cheap paint. That's bad if I bought the Flatline. The Cyclone breaks balls occasionally. The Ceramic is good for that. And if I get a ball break in the Flatline, I'm screwed if I'm playing on the field. The Ceramic is 60 bucks less. I think I'm going to go with that. I have another question... Once the ball leaves the Flatline barrel and goes past the 'normal barrel range', do the balls even break on target? They have to slow down a lot by the time the ball goes the maximum distance. |

hell ya they break!!! I play sometimes on a big, open field, and because the barrle is so long ranged, I just back up to the point where their balls roll around on the ground, then I pick them up, and shoot them right back at them, realy pissing them off.

How much of a difference is the bore size of the Bigshot compared to the Ceramic?

the TI boomstick is one of the best barrels out there, it leaves the J&J in the dust, no scratch that even the bigshot owns the J&J, and the TI boomstick is like 5x better than the bigshot, and a TI boomstick is normally around $180!!!!!!

I already bought the Ceramic. It came to 33 dollars for shipping and everything. The Boomstick and ceramic were both on eBay... I didn't want to tell you till I won the auction. Anyways, someone above said I wouldn't evev notice a difference between the ceramic and boomstick. And how can a boomstick be so much better. The ceramic is already very accurate from what I hear. It can't get any more accurate from near perfect... Do yall think 33 bucks for shipping and everything(plus a Proflex squeegee btw) is a good price?
EDIT: Plus the Boomstick was 14 inches and I think that's too long. For me at least. Thanks Blue Hopper for the link. It says the Ceramic is .688-.691 and the Bigshot is .689. That didn't help much. lol Edited by Boydster |

I played with the ceramic this weekend, because the paintballs that the field was making us use was a super mega large bore, and my armson barrel was way too small for it. Armson broke every single ball, so they loaned me a 14 inch ceramic. I hated it. I could have gotten better accuracy with my effing stock barrel. It was also a good condition barrel so dont think it was bad or anything. But again, personal preference. I hate the J&J, but will swear by my armson. So long as I dont have to use really mega huge paintballs....

I don't see what's so great about a boomstick, it's just a barrel, that
the ball travels through with air behind it, and like almost every
aftermarket barrel, it's nice and shiney inside.

It's all about quality of the barrel and paint to barrel match. |

The Boomstick started on eBay for 75 bucks. I'm guessing it went up to 140. I have no intention on buying barrel for that much. It isn't possible to be much better than the Ceramic. The Ceramic is a very good barrel. How much better can it get? Is the 110 dollars worthy for a grouping maybe 1 inch tighter? Not for me at least. And I was aiming for a quiet barrel. The Bigshot is so freaking loud. It wakes the neighbors at night. And HolySmartOne, you must have had cheap paintballs or a bad bore to barrel size match. I actually used to have a Ceramic for my 98. It came in the mail with cracked threads so I sent it back the next day. From the practice shots fired through it the day I had it, it performed very well. I think even better than my current Bigshot. Might just have been a ball to barrel size lucky match though. idk I'm going to play Saturday so hopefully it'll come in by then. Paintballtogo emailed me and said it was shipped today(Monday). The barrel came with a free squeegee too. |

Good choice. DYE barrels = over-priced, over-hyped, normal barrels. Oh yeah, and they're shiny if that counts for anything... |
