so, My neighbor has declared my data unrecoverable without huge computer voodoo from microsoft since i have XP home, not pro. So I lose 4.5 gigs of music/videos and all my program installations/saved games, poopy. So I am going to reformat and get all that space back, I think I'm gonna run Linux, or winXP with http://www.knoppix-std.org/ as my main OS and windows as a backup. whatcha think?

most of the songs were either from my friends CD's or DL'd from BT, and the videos were all free paintballclips and a few TV shows EDIT: I'm getting lost in the linux jungle, whats a good free install? Edited by BARREL BREAK |

What did you do to the computer? Can it burn CDs? It will only take 6 or 7 data CDs to burn the 4.5 GB onto...

That stinks. The same thing happened to me, but i did it intentionaly. My computer needed sweeped and it got sweeped. Lost alot of good stuff.

It's gone, after instaling SP2, all my old data was lost, but still taking up HD space, its inaccessible, im using a new windows install right now. Extra poopy, i just tried to see if my itunes still worked with my Ipod and now my Ipod has no music left on it! WTH? |

Ohh sucks for you and knoppix is a live cd... I use SuSe 9.1 or 2 i forget.... Now and
I love it and it comes with kopete (i dont know if i spelled it right)
so you can use aim and crap....
