Once again i got to thinking. Only this time it was a good idea. At i think the sports authority, they sell these thermal socks where you put batteries in them and they heat up and whatnot. Now if you put that on your Co2 tank during the winter....wouldnt this really help at getting you more shots and all that good stuff even though its cold outside?

the socks suck they only heat around the toes i have them for hunting, but its a good idea if the socks work you might have a different kind of socks

Cryogenic Liquid Physics 101. Heat = Pressure. Too much pressure = Boom.

yeah it enough heat. It will mess with your gun and cause velocity
spikes. If you want to keep the frost off your gun, throw a regular
sock on it.
Invest in an anti-syphon tube. |

Actually a regular sock won't do you much good either.
I've used small heat packets before... but never on the tank itself. Instead, I would wrap them around my expansion chamber... and only in the dead of winter. Eventually, I gave up on that endeavor as well. If you want to reduce the frost on your gun... run remote, include an expansion chamber, and slow your rate of fire. |

Just use a neoprene tank cover. It will help insulate the tank.

But that's what he doesn't want. When you insulate something that is cold... you keep it cold. |

exactly, in order for insulation to keep something warm, you have to
have heat there to begin with, and since c02 tanks cool from the inside
out, that wont work, it'd be like puting ice in a cooler to make it melt.

or instead of adding an anti-siphon tube, just put on a siphon tube and
run liquid straight to the valve, and so once again i post this page

What the... I see that basic physics are not being taught at school anymore. While what you said is somewhat true, it's not the whole story. As the CO2 bottle empties more volume is avalable for the liquid inside to evaporate into a gas. As you shoot faster the thermal change of a liquid evaporating will reduce the temperature inside the bottle causing the humidity in the air to condense and then freeze onto the tank. A neoprene cover will insulate against this temperature drop, increasing the efficiancy of CO2 during rapid fire. The idea is to limit the change in temperature to increase consistancy from shot to shot. Increasing the temperature of the bottle by adding a heat source, not only will dramatically increase the pressure inside the bottle making it more likly to burst under stress, but will also make the range of temperature inside the bottle from rapid fire greater causing even less consistancy. |

Well, I took "Applied Physics" aka "Physics for Dummies" way back in high school... and never took it in college... so if I'm wrong, I'll stand corrected. :)
Back when I used neoprene covers though... I actually noticed an improvement in performance after I removed them and stopped using them. Perhaps there were other variables affecting that. Oh well. |

im not saying hey lets throw a Co2 tank into a fire, im saying these socks dont get very hot. Its like as warm as a spring day hot. Not enough to make your tank go boom boom. So what im getting at, is if youve got like gore tex or an insulated sock (after your tank has reached thermal equilibrium) on the tank, will it improve the number of shots you get out of a tank in winter.

I thought you were smarter than that. Co2 expands to gas by using heat energy from its surroundings. Thats why your tank gets cold. If you insulate your tank, all you do is prevent any heat from reaching the tank, making your problem worse. |

unless its a heated sock a thermal sock is not going to heat up
anything it is just an insulator...out it on your foot and it gets warm
because it is insulating the 98.6 degree foot inside of it so it feels
warm, its just a protective barrier. Do you think the insulation in the
walls of your house heat it up....no...it protects the temp. inside the
house from the outside.
It would be perfectly safe to use a sock on your tank it will just help the tank maintain a constant temperature protecting it from the cold outside air. |
