Help with 68 carbine

           Okay this ones for those old school technicians among you.  I couldn't resist picking up a used 68 carbine for $40, not in working order.  After tweaking a little I have the gun very close to working. 
         &nbs p; With pressure there are no leaks (at least that I can hear.)  The gun does cock and shoot, however, the pressure is very low (too low to shoot a paintball) and the gun does not recock itself.  The shot sounds good and smooth, only severely under gassed.  The only parts I think I am missing are the velocity screw and spring.  I did pick up a screw and spring in a hardware store that seem to fit pretty nicely, but I'm sure not as good as the factory parts.  The gun shot the same way with and without the spring and screw in that I bought. 
         &nbs p; I read tippmann troubleshooting and it said a bad bolt spring could lead to decreased velocity, and my spring is old and a little bent, but I don't know if it would retard the gun that much.  Any ideas would be appreciated!

Sounds to me like you definitely need a new main drive spring.

Don't fret the fact that you have an older Tippmann gun... it's the same drive spring found in the Model/Custom98 and A-5.
If you get a chance, I would go ahead and order a new spring. If you can't find any... you should be able to find a Maddman Spring Kit for Tippmanns.

In it, will be three main drive springs, two smaller springs that you can use to replace the trigger spring (leave the older/stock sear spring in), and two other springs that won't be used on the Carbine.

The velocity screw is important as well... I had the screw size written down somewhere, but can't find my list anywhere. It's a part you can pick up at the hardware store. Hopefully someone else can come back with the threading-size and overall length... if not, I'll search the records on my computer tomorrow at the office... if I remember.

oddly enough, Tippmann as far as I can tell, has used the same drive spring in every single gun it has produced. A 98 drive spring works in my SMG-60

1/4-20 threading, 1 inch length hex head cap screw.

Ahhh... see that, Enos comes through for you.

The guy... drive spring for the Pro-Am/Lite series is considerably longer. :) And the SL-68 spring, of course. hehe.
