Is there any way you can upgrade a 98 to be as good or better than a
pro? This is probably a stupid question, but how can a pro have an E
grip,and a 98 can't? Aren't they basically the same?

The reciever halves are different and the sear assembly is too. In theory, you could put the e-grip in the 98c. You would just have to buy the custom pro reciever halves, sear assembly, and e-grip. In the end it is just too costly.

I would bet you that the E-Grip component parts could be adapted to fit a 98C grip, but that is probably wild speculation on my part. Few mechanical designs that I see in paintball markers couldn't be adapted to fit another marker...particularly within the Tippman line. Heck, people adapt the Intimadator style parts all the time. Making the Pro's sear tripper fit the Custom's grip looks pretty straight forward. The other method to equal peformance would be to install an E-Bolt on the 98C. |

Yes, it is just more expensive. It may not be in this case though. It might be more expensive to put the e-grip in the 98c. You could always think about getting a r/t also. They are only $75 and are practically full automatic.

If you don't play in tourney's, then think about getting the r/t like Rossy said. If you have it tuned properly it can be faster than the E-bolt and E-grip.

There is a small piston that goes behind your trigger. Like this:
The r/t just uses excess gas to move the piston behind the trigger. The trigger kind of bounces off your finger to create a full auto effect. Edited by rossy11223 |

The response trigger kit increases your trigger speed by resetting the trigger and sear with excess gas during firing. This gas is used to operate a cylinder behind the trigger to do the resetting. The pressure of your finger on the trigger pulls it back to fire the next shot. The speed is determined by the amount of flow through the knurled adjuster on the side. The upper limit on the rate of fire is set by this adjuster. This kit does not prevent you from switching back to the original setup of the 98 custom. Edited by evil_fingers |

It's at least good that you are learning before you buy. That's what I did. Personally, the r/t and E-bolt aren't worth it. You'll need a good hopper to keep up if you plan to go really fast. The r/t deals with swaping out the valve in the powertube which if your new and don't have an idea on what your doing, would be a bad idea to do it yourself. All that also implies with the E-bolt and it has more to swap-out and replace. To be short I have no respect for the E-Bolt. If you want an automatic, get a gun that is made for it. One that'll work on Nitro, and has a better chance of not chopping right from the box. For instance, The Spyder Pilot ACS 05. No chop because of the bolt, and has a regulator. Actionvillage.com has blue to black fade and red to black fade for $160. If you go this route make sure they are the '05 edition other wise you'll have a funky finger grip on it. I also bought a 12v Revvy with xboard at the same place for like $17 on sale and apparently they went for $40 to $50 when I bought. Tippmann originally made the model98 to be a sweet semi-machine. The gears of money came out with the 98c and all the upgrades. I'll never put an automated part in my 98c. Edited by TEKahuna |
