Is the 100$ price tag on the flatline worth it for the tippmann 98?

Look around and see if you can get it for less.

Check out www.actionvillage.com . They have it for like $89. You might can find it cheaper somewhere else. I guess it's up to you, though. If you're getting that from a friend you won't have to pay shipping. If you have to pay shipping I guess It evens out. But, if you're ordering it I'd get it from action village.

you should deffinatly get it. shop around for it tho. i found mine for $75 from a local proshop. it was used tho but still works great. i also suggest you get a secondary barrel. (flatlines are a little paint picky. but worth it all the same)

Six weeks ago I would have said go for it, but not now. I have used a Flatline for over a year and though it works as advertised it required the right paint.

Three weeks ago I bought the new BT16 Apex barrel. It does everything that a Flatline will do and MUCH MORE. You can adjust the amount of curve up, down, and sideways...and it does it with ANY paint. I got mine off Ebay for $89 plus about $12 shipping.

The only drawback is that, just like the Flatline, it is loud. It is shorter than the Flatline on the 98C which may be why it is louder, but it is more easily maneuvered on the speedball field.

agreed,

now that the Apex is out, at least entertain the idea.

if you want a long range barrel, then pay the extra for the Apex. with having the 98, you will be able to clean it out alot easier, its alot shorter and much lighter. its still rather loud, but its on the same plane as the flatline. and with my A-5, i have a max range, of what seems like 100 yards, yes thats 300 feet. its not accurate there, but its more accutate then lobbing at that distance. and the curving part, is amazing, just play around with it.

^^I agree too. Apex>Flatline. I mean think about it, it has the capabilitys of the Flatty, and much more, at around the same price.

It is your decision. You could probably get them both for about the same price.

for the flatline all you would have to do is turn the gun side ways and shoot. plus what if someone ran up to bunker you, you would have to fix your shot and then shoot them and by that time you would be gone.

I personally like my flatline.  However, I'm fortunate in that it is one of several barrels for me so, I can pick the best for the conditions (especially the paint).
When I shoot well-rounded paint like Evil, it's range is awesome and it's accuracy is okay, good for areas where I can take advantage of it (woods that are not very dense, and the back positions in the speedball fields).
When I have to use sub-quality paint like when the field requires it (yesterday's scenario used 32 degrees Team Colors) the accuracy goes out the window, negating any range benefit.  Or if I'm playing on a short field or in dense woods, and I need accuracy, then I gotta break out my stiffi-switch, or even the Armson Stealth (preferably if the paint is the right size).
In comparison to the Apex?  I dunno.  I'm gonna think on that some more.

Have you actually tried the Apex? If someone runs up on you, you shoot him. No adjustment necessary, regardless of the settings.

Tilting the marker is possible with the Flatline, I have done it. But twisting the nose of the Apex is actually faster than trying to hold the marker awkwardly and actually firing it. You also cannot lay tightly into the bunker very well with the hopper sticking out sideways.

For me, the Apex set with no spin shoots as accurately as most any other barrel I have tried. And what is most cool is that the barrel works with any paint I have tried so far.

ditto, i was just shooting mine a a tree that was 6-8 inches wide, at about 100 feet through an unregulated A-5. Co2 with a remote. i took three shots, one at a time, and i plunked the tree all 3 times. i was very impressed to say the least
