Welcome to paintball. First off, don't be so quick to blame your gun. If you are getting lit up a lot, consider whether you are doing something wrong tactically. Talk to some more experienced player and see if they can offer some advice. Now, playing with a stockish 98 against electros does put you at a disadvantage, particularly in speedball. But it sounds like your main problem is that you are afraid of popping out because the other guys are shooting "30 bps" at you. The thing is, even if you get a super-fast gun yourself the other guys will STILL be shooting fast at you. Getting an Ion (or whatever) will not fix the problem that the other guys are shooting fast at you. That's just part of speedball, and you are going to have to get used to it or find a different hobby. Now, if you want to get a new speedball gun, an Ion is an excellent choice for the price, and I wouldn't worry about replacing the regulator. The Ion is just fine in its stock configuration - the people that are complaining about the reg are at a much higher level of play than you (or are pretending to be). You don't need to worry. To summarize: 1. People shoot fast - get used to it. 2. Work on your tactics, and worry less about your gun. 3. If you want a new gun, an Ion is a good choice, and no need to replace the reg. |

well....a 98 isnt really a speedball gun but it'll do, you might want to get a firepower upgrade (like an rt for ex.) also, with the ion, (more experienced people correct me if im wrong) a regulater stabalizes the gun's pressure, so it doesnt mess with your velocity. but i wouldnt blame everything on your gun, try to get better at snap shooting or other tactics that could be putting you at a dissavantage, practice is all i can say.. Also try search or google Edited by vonfeldt7 |

The ion reg isnt that bad. and its not hard on the gun
no. and if you do get tired of the ion reg you can just buy a different one. |

Make sure you're not popping out of the top of bunkers. When you do this, the entire field can see you.
Just lean out one side or another for a few quick shots and get back in. |

I've had my ION for 6 months now (I Think) The reg is still working
fine and the only problem so far was the new QEV I put in leaked. The
stock reg does jump a bit as far as consistancy, but I'm going to use
the stock reg until it breaks.

Get good with your Tippmann first... For my first year, I used a 98 Custom with an expansion chamber, a powerfeed, a revolution hopper, and most importantly, an All American barrel.
It didn't even matter that the Angels could shoot faster. My Tippmann could place some pretty accurate shots, so I only usually got 2 or 3 shots off before tucking back in. You will still be at a disadvantage, but your skills will mature more quickly. Give it 6 months of some solid play and then buy your Ion. Don't get into a habit of buying/selling your gun every few weeks. |

If there shooting 30bps at you they either know ur just going to hide the whole time and be scared or they suck. You shoould only stay out of ur bunker for less then a second. aim=.5secs then shoot 1-5 balls max.

I have a mech tippy (although with pen spring and trigger stop) and I
LOVE going to my local speedball field each sunday to play against
angels/shockers/ions. It forces me to learn the game, snap shoot,
develop a 6th sense, and improve my skills. I usually get out pretty
quickly (might be becuase I have a habbit of running for the snake off
the break), but each time I get hit a learn a little more. And I force
myself to only shoot 1 bag of paint.

ive been on this forum for years...ive seen people do the same thing and get away with it....read the rule....read the red...i am not selling on THIS FORUM...simply stating i have one for sale if someone wants to buy it away from this forum...i gave no details about the gun other than i had it. Id like to know the mod who gave me a strike because according to the rules i did nothing wrong. Sixth, selling or buying of guns, parts, accessories, upgrades or gear is strictly forbidden on this forum. The fact of the matter is, Tippmann does not wish to be involved in any possible action resulting from someone being ripped off or scamming. There are many other paintball websites and forums where you can sell or purchase gear, as well as ebay. |
