I've read here that it shouldn't be done. Why not? It seems easy enough to get it back in right. In fact, I don't see how it could be put back in wrong... Why is it important that it not be taken out?

well, there's the danger of stripping out the threads in the valve, which is definately not good; you'd have to buy a new valve. (In case you didn't know, the two screws that hold the power tube in place actually go through holes in the tube directly into the valve body.) |

^^^That's true if you have a 98. If you're using an A-5, it's not a problem.

Sorry for the late reply, but I really need to know. Is the only problem with taking off the powertube the risk of stripping the threads in the valve?

not a huge risk though, unless you do it often or if you're just a dumbnut who overtightens it too much.
