How do i check for a worn ball detent?

Leave your gun uncocked because if you leave it cocked it puts pressure on your drive spring which over time can decrease its tension, leading to velocity problems.

As for the ball detent, I don't think you have to worry about that. I've never had a problem with mine wearing out, and mine's like 3yrs old.

I cant say Ive ever had a worn ball detent...But I have lost it on many occasion.

The finger on the detent begins to look thinner, as it it is drying out. If you flex the finger on the old detent comparing it with a new detent, it is noticeably softer. Some people using gravity feeders may get a couple of years of use from one detent. If you are using a force feed style hopper, like a Halo B, and you begin to have problems such as chopped paint, replace the detent. Playing about once a week my son and I are replacing the detents about every 4 months (Halo B). It doesn't start to double feed, but the marker begins to chop paint. After trying bunches of other fixes, replacing the indent suddenly fixes it. We have not let it get so bad that if begins to feed two balls.

Storing the marker un-cocked depresses the detent causing it to take  set and may lead to early replacement. Storing the marker cocked compresses the spring. Over time this may also take a set requiring adjustments to maintain velocity and may also lead to the need for replacement. Both items should be replaced periodically due to NORMAL wear and tear.

i would reccomend atleast replacing it after every year

Ya im chopping like mad, but ive only used the gun (and therefore detent) three times. Any other reasons? Im shooting 5/6 bps on an agitating hopper rated to 14.

Some of the really "tournament" grade paint is just too brittle to cycle through a Tippmann.

Is XBall Bronze or DraXxus Midnight to brittle?

Also is there a chance that one chop put some paint into the feedneck, and after i cleaned it some residue got stuck? (cause i know the paint residue is sticky, so could it be jamming up the hopper?)
