So on my parent's computer, they are running XP . So at random intervals, these flash popups come up. They aren't like regular popups in that they aren't displayed in a browser, they have no border adjustments or anything, but they have an advertisement. Well when you click it anywhere, it closes but disables the start menu for over a minute, meaning that you can't click anything on the start menu. But along with this, msconfig is disabled, and i can't install anything on the computer. So, I went to use spybot S&D to see if I could get rid of my problem, well it seems spybot is disabled, so I go to use mcafee, guess what, its disabled too. SO, then I try going to the symantec website, and its blocked. Then I go to the Mcafee website, yup its blocked too. Then something else happened, the browser would open and go to random websites (random ones, even ebay once) and the broswer would change size and position. So I also noticed that before it goes anywhere, it seems to go to ad.doubleclick.net really fast, so I went into the router and blocked this site, but it didn't stop anything. So then when one of the flash popups came up, I right clicked and went into the macromedia settings, and it displayed http://www.browerbuy-out.com for every one of the popups. So I blocked that site too, and the same things still happen.

Someone please help. I know someone is probably going to suggest backing everything up and then reformating the system, but my mom has told me thats out of the questing, and I also need to use that computer so I really need help.

Come on tiger... at least read the first post.

Another thing you could try is to get a bootable linux CD and then get a virus-scan program for it, or go to McAfee's site or whatnot.

What the hell, That would'nt do anything...

The Trojen (Thats what it is) is on the hardrive and will do the same thing.

I say, Boot up in safe mode, Then try booting MSConfig. If that does'nt work, Download AVG antivirus software, Chances are the trojen/worm wont disable that.

And if that does'nt work, Try CTRL+Alt+DLT look at processes and look for something you dont recognize, If you find anything... Turn it off, Then try running MSconfig again. You need to get into MS, that way you can shut the damn thing off.

Have them hear about reformatting form someone else, when parents hear something form someone else saying its agood idea, then they buy it. They don't trust kids.

Not to smart are we stealth? The other machine would boot into their normal hard drive and the crapped out machines hard drive would run as slave. Windows would just display it as a second drive. Then he could use his virus scan software onthe good computer to scan that drive. It actually is probably the best thing he can do if they won't let him reformat. Probably the only good advice wazzup has ever given. Although if they won't let him reformat I doubt they trust him enough to take the harddrive out.

Don't blame me, I voted for Kodos.

Pretty much the only way you're going to completely fix it is to reformat and start over. Make them realize that.  It'll only take a few hours and everything will be back to normal.
