Are you sure the nuts on the inside of the grip that hold the ASA are aligned correctly, from the picture it appears they might be out of thier socket.

The same thing happened to mine. What i did is over tightened them and stripped them. I bought some new screws and it is back to normal.

Check these bolts, if they're not in there place correctly they could hold the receiever halves apart. Also you should check to see if all the bolts are in the reciever half. |

if you messed up the holes in the reciever like i did a few months ago, i'd recommend doing something similar to what i did: hopefully that helps. it really isn't that hard of a job, but i'd recommend sanding it once you fill in the holes so that it looks nice and smooth...if you don't, it's not a big deal, because it'll be covered by the grip anyway. any more questions and PM me and i might have some pictures if you don't know what i mean. |

i actually don't have pictures of my gun during the process. if the screws won't stay in the holes (or don't thread in easily), then you definitely stripped the threads in the reciever. you'll have to get some JB weld, which is stuff that you put in the holes, and it'll dry and harden. then you drill and tap it. if you go to a hardware store and tell them what you need to do, they should be able to hook you up. when i went to a nearby hardware store, they told me that i could go to a gun shop, and just buy bigger screws, because actual handguns with the .45 grip (which is what the 98 has), have the same screw pattern, just bigger screws. |

you dont have to fill the holes with jb weld, actually that doesnt make much sense at all. just tap the holes out one size bigger and use bigger screws.

The screws are not being screwed into the reciever but into nuts , replace the screws and nuts.

In mine there are slots for them though. You could just get some nuts.
