    Posted: 01 August 2006 at 3:42pm

I have an A-5, and I am using the Lapco Bigshot 12" Barrel. I have noticed that although the barrel is not at all picky about what paint I use, and is a VERY GOOD all-arround barrel, that the accuracy is not as good as when I shoot my friend's A-5 with an air-ported barrel.

So, with all of that said, are there any suggestions on a very accurate barrel?

Also, I have notived that different manufacturers have different threading. Is there another threading that I can look at other than Tippmann?

You need Tippmann A5 threading unless you have an adaptor. The LAPCO Bigshot is one of the most accurate barrels out there. You could look into a JJ Ceramic. All American barrels are nice too.

Pumpker'd; (V.) When a pump player runs up and shoots you at point blank range because you thought 20bps made you good.

Air Ported? Sounds like a gimmick to me.

As far as I can tell about the air ported, it seems like the barrels have the holes drilled in them to act like rifling, but w/o groves in the barrel which would put scratches into the paintball casing. Basically, putting a slight spin on the ball by using the release of air as the ball travels down the barrel.

At least this is my take on it. I could be wrong.

J&J Ceramic barrels are cut out of aluminum, with a ceramic type coating applied to the inside.

wouldnt using rifled barrels inderectly decrease air efficiency, as you would need more air to push the ball the same distance since some of the gas escapes?

rifleing doesnt work on a sphere! it will only work on a cylender. If you put the kind of spin rifleing produces on a sphere it will turn your marker into a screwball machine. and the porting is not meant to spin the ball, It is meant to allow gas to escape from multiple pathways so that when the ball comes out the end of the barrel the gas is already disipated enough that it wont sound like a megaphone. some say it helps stabalize the ball as well but my non-ported barrel is just as accurate as my ported barrel

Or, you cannot buy an over priced piece of metal that does the same job as barrels half it's price.

i got a rap4 rifled barrel for 34$ and its a strong accurate barrel for the price. i fell and smashed the barrel off a rock and it only chipped a little piece out the end of it.
Canadians do it on top.

Well, the best thing you can do for accuracy for ANY barrel, is make sure you have a good paint-to-barrel match.
