so i filled the 9oz tank that came with my 98 and put it on my gun nice and tightly i shot almost 50 times and then put it in my closet for about a week and a half i shot it again yesterday and only got like 8 shots before the co2 was out it is leaking very slowly i think and was wondering if this was a major problem and i should have it looked at |

no, you shouldn't leave your tank on the marker. No seal is perfect and chances are, your tank was either a bit loose or the o-ring contracted due to the lack of activity and allowed the CO2 to slowly leak out over time. NEVER leave your tank on your marker unless you have a specific on-off ASA on your marker. You might as well leave a loaded and cocked handgun around your house if you're going to leave your paintball marker gassed up, either way you're asking for trouble.

k thanks i had no idea i was out of paint and my friend said that if i took off the tank all the air would come out is ther a way to take off the tank once it is on the gun without losing all my air? |

If you unscrew your tank and shoot at the same time. You will only waste like 3-4 shots. There is no way to not waste air but it isnt all that expensive. You will have to fill your tank after a few games anyway.

When you unscrew the tank from the gun, the air that is in the airlines inside of the gun will blast out of the back of the ASA. It is not much air, but those repeated blasts will ruin O-rings on the tank.
The trick is mastering the process of turning the tank slowly until just before it reaches that point where all the gas tries to escape, and fire the gun (with no paint) 8-10 times and will shoot all the air out. If you are willing to spend money to alleviate the problem, you can always buy an ASA or a tank with an on/off valve, which will allow you to shut the gas supply off before you unscrew the tank. |

Or drill a very small hole in the asa in the correct spot to let the air out when unscrewing the tank.

that is true of the tiny little 12 gram cartridges, those to not have a valve, just a diaphram that you puncture when loading it, the POS walmart 4oz may be the same way, i dont know |

we keep loaded and cocked guns in our house either way take the tank off when you are done if it hasnt been said enough and dont ever listen to that friend about what to do with your gun again. if you have a question come here and you will like the results. |

Constant-Air CO2 canisters (anything above a 12 gram) will either have a pin-valve that automatically seals the CO2 in the bottle when you take it off, or an on-off gate-valve that you turn to shut off the co2 supply. That is why you don't loose your co2 as you take the tank off.

Either get a tank with an on/ off valve, or simply read your manual. It tells you this:
Unscrew your tank roughly 3/4 of a turn, then shoot a few times. Your gun should make the sound of you running out of air. If not, unscrew slightly more, and try again. Make sure you have no paint in the gun when you're doing this btw. What happens is you unscrew it enough to release the pin in the tank, but not too far as to let the air rush out. Shooting releives the pressure, allowing you to unscrew the tank. I do it this way, and it works every time. |
