98c for $320, thats a ripoff.
If you want something electronic go buy a used Ion, they go for less than $200. |

I'd say Ion, but you're going to pay more than $300 total package for an Ion.
Ion: ~$200 HPA Tank: ~$150 E-Hopper: ~$100 Mind you, it isn't much more, but if you're working with a budget, well, you get the point. The Ion (even though I hate smart parts for moral reasons) is a fantastic marker for both woodsball and speedball. It is rapidly catching up with Tippmann's offerings as a dependable entry-level to mid-level, highly upgradeable marker. |

I would look into finding an Ebolt for the 98 you have now, centerfeeding it, and getting yourself a Halo B. |

you can get a 98 custom for $79.99 brand new on ebay. Ya 320 is a rip off in my opinion too. You don't need a stock or remote coil. Don't you already have a tank? If you got an egrip (if your model is new enough) you should be fine, well a cylcone feed would be good too or do a centerfeed mod and add a halo or pulse. Anyway ebolting it is awesome except it can be a lot of work and expensive. Well actually if you look on ebay you could find a good deal on an ebolt. |

E-bolts are expensive I got a deal and a half for one off a nice guy. ebay is the worst place to buy one.
and tallen, a new ion is $200. used you're looking at about $100-150 (though i'm getting one for $70 with a $140 board, and a $40 trigger) you can get a new aluminum tank for about $70 and a used one for $30. You can get a used carbon fibre one for $100. A halo b goes for about $115 new and $60 used.
These are all pbnation.com average prices. and the new ones were average online store prices. |

You can still do the ebolt, but with the Ebolt cost you could have bought a Ion. |

i like the 98 i have but.... i just want to upgrade to a newer gun that im familiar with and i CAN UPGRADE if i have to and the 98 custom pro which i was under the impression was the best gun tippmann makes would be the best choice
the package is stuff i put together not a vendor i thought the custom pro w/ egrip would do good with the cyclone from what ive read in the forums maybe i could loose the stock but a new 20 oz and remote would be an option to use in a game when i want them i didnt add a flatline because ive heard that some guns dont do well with them (BLENDER) and i like the smart parts barrel i have now so id just swap it to the new gun and i just wanna add that i know sooo many people have said buy a ion but i wanna stick with a product and animal im familiar with kind of like buying a car if u always buy a ford and like ford then it doesnt make sense to buy a dodge |

Ford isn't a good analogy to be using right now, especially since their stock is about to get scrapped to junk status.
Anyway. Yeah, you can go with a cyclone and e-grip on your tippmann, but the fact of the matter is, you can save yourself a lot of money and give yourself the opportunity to purchase a much more versatile marker with better technology if you go with some other options. For example. I'd gladly go up against you with the USED 2003 DMLCD that I just picked up. It cost me half as much as the set up you're quoting and can out gun a tippmann no matter what you put on it. It's your money, so do what you want with it, but don't just stand there when we give you good advice and blindly stand by your choice. What's the point of asking advice if you aren't going to take it? |

Ions aren't really that hard. Hell they might even be easier to learn because they have less parts and less things flying out as you open the marker.

Ion = $200 E-Hopper= $60 (Evolution II w/ Y-board) Steel Tank= $40-$75 (45cu 3000psi - 55cu 3000psi - 75cu 3000psi) Ion Cost: $300-$375 So the cost turns out to be about the same as the package he is buying (a little less or a little more depending). The Ion WILL outperform the tippmann 98 c, expecially an upgraded ion. In this case you have a loader and a N2 tank that can always be transfered over for use on another gun. The CO2 tank he is offering you,.. you should alreasy have 1 (since you already have a gun). Plus higher end guns will not be able to run on CO2, but many low end guns can run on the tank (even if it isnt operating on low pressure). The loader he is offering you is decent and good, but cannot be used on other markers, and if a cyclone feed system breaks you cannot simply remove it and slap on another loader/ hopper (at least on a-5 and the x-7). So the Eggy II is more versatile, it will feed fast enough for the ion, and most guns, yet it cheaper than the high end loaders (Vlocity, Halo, Pulse, Empire, and Q-loader) by 1/2. I say get the ion w/ the aformentioned accesories since it will allow to more vesatility with your setup, allow to easily upgrade in the future, and outperform your current model 98, the 98 you are offered and when upgraded a tippmann 98 isn't even comparable. Oh or you can go on ebay and look up angels, I got my LCD for less than an A-5 (A-5: $220, my 02 LCD: 185), and they require very little work. Then all you need for it is a loader and a tank VL Revolution: $50 (local field sells the VL Revolution Tripod for $40, maybe similar deals are to found?) N2 Tank: $40-$75 Which makes a used LCD w/ a tank and revy cheaper than the upgraded tippmann 98. (you have to search for a good deal though). |

You dont need an Ion. Plain and simple. If you're playing against E-Spyders, and you are mainly a woodsballer, just buy an E-Grip with a Cyclone. You will need to do some very slight modification, but thats no problem. And that Custom Pro is the same exact thing as your current marker execpt you will not need to do the modification to use the E-Grip, and it has A.C.T. Plus, yours is made in America, not China. What most of the people here dont realize is you are not looking into this to be the ub3r pwn speedballer (At least by what it sounds like), but just looking for something a little better.
1. Its the player, not the gun. 2. I believe NN's Tippmann begs to differ. |

1) Obviously skill wons out over the gun, but when you have two equally skilled people, the person with the better gun has the advantage. In addition it is easier to lay down supression fire against a group of players so your team can move up if you can shoot more (common sense). 2) Why would you not get a better gun if its less expensive? This seems common sense. Why would you buy a ford, when you can get a Lamorghini cheaper? It is incredibly stupid to spend more money on an inferior product. If there is a better product for less money, you should naturally buy it. (IMO Tippmanns are becoming increasingly costly for increasingly outdated technology... not bad guns, just too much $$ for what they are). 3) People aren't trying to be get him to be the "Uber speedballer", they are trying to inform him of better deals, with better equipment. The fact that some people feel that they have to sacrifice performance inorder to play in the woods is ignorant. I'm just glad you didn't say one shot one kill. |
