What do you want the PC for? You wouldn't install the same components if you were building a high end gaming system as you would if you want a second computer just to get online and whatnot.

Are you using components you already have in the new pc? If so you want to make sure the processor socket and memory slots and whatnot are compatible. You also want to make sure that the mobo in the barebones kit you pick has plenty of slots. Mainly APG and PCIe, but yeah. If you're gonna make a gaming rig with any kind of highend cards and/or you're planning on adding a bunch of HD space, you might want to make sure you have a good power supply.

And like they said, newegg and tigerdirect are the way(s) to go.
