So, my pc isn't bad. 3 gig processor, a gig of ram, ect...The only problem is that Dell is retarded and only included PCI slots on the mobo, and their proprietary connectors and crap in the case is preventing me from replacing the mobo with a better one. Well, I'm too poor/lazy for a total rebuild but I'd kind of like to play some games that came out within the last year or so, so I was wondering if I had any options for good PCI graphics cards....I've been looking around, but so success so far....Any help?

You would be much better off buying a new mobo and graphics card. PCI cards are pretty awful for gaming. It wouldn't be difficult to find a decent mobo for your rig and a nice card. How much are you looking to spend?

if you can even find PCI cards any more, your going to have to get the abosulty top of the line one (should be pretty cheap), and it will suffice better then an onboard one
dardur you gotta remember tho, if he upgrades his mobo, his cpu prob wont fit, and even his ram might not fit, so hes basicly going to have to get a new comp i dug this one up in about 5 minutes http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-det ails.asp?EdpNo=2447995&CatId=319 it dosnt seem to bad, and pretty cheap |

It's the low end equivalent of the FireGL series, and will be horrid for most consumner apps. |

Not true at all. All he needs to do is find a mobo with support for his processor and RAM. Dell doesn't make special processors and RAM that only fit their boards. Hell, give me the specs (CPU type, CPU socket, RAM type, RAM speed, number of IDE/SATA drives, etc.) and I can dig up a decent one in 10 minutes. |

Actually my HP only allows straight PCI also.
Do you think i'd be able to find a better one than my nvidia fx 5500? Edited by carl_the_sniper - 24 June 2007 at 7:55pm |

I wrote it wrong i ment if it is an older mobo, its going to have an older cpu socket, and its going to be hard to find a newer mobo with the same socket |

From his description, I'm guessing he has either a Pentium 4 or Celeron, and more then likely its a more recent model. I'd say at oldest, its a socket 478, they still make boards for that. Although, rereading the post, it still might be possible to find a board that will fit in your case. If not, a decent case shouldnt cost you more then $100, more the likely much less. |

Same card I have. But yeah, I could use the stuff out of this PC on another mobo, I've actually found one that will work. But I'll also have to get another case and fan for the cpu and whatnot....It's not that hard to replace the mobo, I just don't have the extra cash to replace the case and everything else. I'm just trying to find a quick fix for now until I'm not so poor.... |

I've read before that some Dell's have weird proprietary power supplies too, so make sure it's something that's compatible with a new mobo before you go plugging stuff in, if you go that route.
And you should be able to use the old CPU fan/heatsink if it's the same socket. Start looking at garage sales for an ATX case maybe? |
