Between the two, Flatline or Apex, the Apex is the better choice. Less finicky obout paint quality and diameter. No problems with fit. Other features including being able to turn off the backspin feature if desired.

^Agreed. The Apex tends to be more manageable than the Flatline.

i would not recomend the apex as it is somewhat cumbersome and is hard to get used to.

i would recomend the J&J Fulltilt Ceramic Barrel

I have an X-7 with both the flatline and a 14" J&J ceramic. they both work for different types of play. I use the flatline for the big outdoor games and although I had some trouble with it breaking balls at first (I had to lightly sand the aluminum insert) it works great now. This is at Hell in MI with their field paint. The J&J works great on smaller outdoor fields, but I still prefer the flattie! If the paint is lower quality or I break alot I switch to the J&J. Flatline $99  J&J $29. $130 covers both types of play. I don't have any experience with the APEX so I can't cooment on it, but I would like to try a tip on my J&J

Accuracy on either the Flatline or Apex will never be as good as a conventional barrel. They are spray and pray barrels. They are only effective for long range paint spewing. Accurate shooting should be left to normal, higher quality barrels. For the cost of a Flatline or Apex, you could be getting a nice kit like a J&J Edge.

Try to shoot the Apex with the ramp turned off, i think you will be very suprised to see how accurate this barrel is. I have a two piece dye ultralite very accurate and very quiet. I also hve 14' sly nice, but those barrels are pricey. the Apex will shoot any size ball, never have I had an issue with paint size.
