    Posted: 12 September 2007 at 12:52am
I just put a response trigger on my 98 custom and I'm having trouble getting it dialed in to that "sweet spot" that i've always heard r/t users talk about (and that I've been on the recieving end of). Any tips for tuning it.

Ok, first thing first, if the tippmann 98 response is like the a-5 response it should have a little screw adjuster on the right side of your 98. First turn it down all the way down(inwards) and shoot. If it's hard to pull the trigger then your response is functioning properly u can know start slowly loosening the screw and shooting a couple times(try to hold the trigger half way) if it doesnt work, keep loosening the screw and keep shooting every time u adjust the response.adjust the screw a little aty a time if u get a burst of shots then u have found the sweet spot. Keep in mind that holding the sweet spot takes time to get used to and to master, so u have to be patiant. O ya and when u find the sweet spot the trigger should vibrate behind your finger.Good luck i hope this helps.

ok I did all of the above to tune it but when I hit the "sweet spot" I only get 2 shots off the the piston does not come back out all the way and I have release the trigger to let the sear catch the bolt again and the again fire getting only 2 shots.  I am so frustrated this is my second r/t a they both have problems
yes i have the stronger sear spring in.

That might not be the sweet spot. Try loosening the screw a little more. Do you have enought CO2?
NASA and the Americans spent millions of dollars and hundreds of hours to develop a pen that would write in space.....The Russians used a pencil.

When finding the sweet spot you must keep the same amount of tension on the trigger so you don't push all the way down on the trigger causing the r/t not to work. Also, you must have a full co2 tank for tuning because when the co2 is low, it doesn't work well at all.

using HPA with almost 3000 in tank. did you actually read the post the r/t just stops and I have to let the trigger go to reset the sear in the rear bolt.

HPA doesn't work well with the R/T/ r/ts like co2 more. Try getting the super r/t mod.

I'm not understanding why the r/t doesn't work well with HPA it is still operating at 850psi.

98 Custom RTs work fine on HPA as long as your bottle is putting out 850psi.

I could empty a 68/4500 with one pull/hold of the trigger.
Just keep playing with it..adjust it and keep trying.
It takes practice and maybe a bit of patience...but it will work.

yeah I hope so cause this is my second r/t and both have failed me. going to try the super r/t mod and see if it works then.

tell me this, is it a mistake to try to tune the r/t (or get it to work all together) dry firing? I haven't had a chance to go somewhere to shoot paint through it yet.

Ok I did all the right stuff and the gun was working for about 60 rounds but it seemeds like the tank and gun are getting really cold(ice on the tank) then i just get the usual one pull one shot. Also haow much of a tank of air is repuired to keep the trigger running right cause obviously it is worse on a low tank.
