Topic: SLG, Vibe, or IonPosted: 17 May 2008 at 10:45pm |

So, by the end of this school year my dad basically said,"I'll get you
something for $300". So, I don't know why but I have all 3 current gen game systems, a sick computer, and a snowboard worth $500. So, with that I have to go to paintball, I have a 98c(like the rest of the world) and want an entry level gun. The vibe seems to be a good all around gun, but looks a little cheap. The Ion, I can't see anything wrong with other than the fact that too many people have them(I don't like having something all of my friends have). The SLG I think is the best but I'm really not sure about any of them, help please?

I also have a 98c like the rest of the world and have modded it into an AK-47 like many before me. However, the way I modded my 98 is unique and there's nobody else with my AK version/configuration, nobody. Not to brag, but I happen to think it's the 'hardest' AK mod I've ever seen which was the whole point for doing it in the first place.
Why don't you mod your 98 into something maybe not purely unique, but definately different than the next guy. You've got a reliable marker in that 98 friend, a tried and true workhorse and with so many mods and a father willing to shell out 300 bones, dude you've got modding power!
Sure it may be simple and unassuming.....
But with a little thought and even more coin it doesn't have to be.

SLG is going to be best for your money.
Don't buy a smart parts gun. They basically send you and empty box. All of their guns need to be upgraded to the point where you have put more money into the gun than it cost in the first place. Ion: $200. Now we add all the ups: feedneck, trigger, board, ASA, Reg, barrel. Right there is almost $300 in (quality parts, no cheapo crap to save money) upgrades. So, you've just payed $200 for a gun, then $300 in ups. Thats $500. Same story goes with the vibe I bought a heavily upped ion for $250 (probably close to $600 worth of ups) and the gun still sucks. My PMR beats it any day. Get the SLG, Proto makes quality stuff you may need the minor upgrade here or there, but hey, its better than the other choice. Another thing, you'll need an HPA tank and an electronic hopper. So take that into consideration. SLG's (or Ions) can't run off Co2 (ions technically can but they still don't work as well as if they has HPA) or you can do what techietaichi said and customize your 98c. (although I'm not a fan of milsim) I asy an SLG is your best bet Edited by kook - 18 May 2008 at 8:10am |

No I think you'll be fine. Just as long as you get your stuff online because a store will have marked up the prices.
SLG 200 DXS metal tank (its a little heavier than a carbon fiber but its not bad.) 48ci/3000psi 65$ and I'm sure you could find a e-hopper out there for $30. It wont be the prettiest or fastest, but you need one that should go 13 bps (NPPL rules) Maybe you could fins a ricochet. |

Go used, atleast for the equipment.
$30 for an Egg(viewloader evlution) $70 for a new 72/3000 tank, or you can find a used 68/4500 for $80 if you look. That'll give you enough for an SLG. |

Yes it is better. Compare the Vibe and the SLG on their specifications and you'll see why. You can run C02 (anti-siphoned preferably) on the SLG, it just isn't recommended. |

Stock ions are amazing for the money. They don't really need any more upgrades than any other marker would. Oh and any used ion for $250 is a rip off. |

SLG, I have one and absolutely love it! The only upgrades needed are a feedneck, and a trigger.
