I received a Tippmann 98 Custom for Christmas, bought a stock for it and decided to upgrade the barrel.  I work for UPS and a flatline barrel had been damaged in a shipment so they were going to dispose of it, and I guess they "gave" it to me.  The only real damage was done to the shroud, but I can live with that.  The drawback is that it had no barrel to gun adapter.  I purchased one at the local paintball shop and as the title says I cannot seem to install the adapter correctly.  I have the adapter for a 98, I am sure of it, but I can only screw it in far enough that the bolt is at the top, I cannot continue screwing it all the way on.  Someone said to take the gun apart and put it on that way.  Is that the best way to do?  I am open to suggestions and if nothing else works the paintshop will have a little more business from me.

Thanks

Try that and let us know how things go. Then we can point you in the right direction if something isn't right.

That sounds about normal.  Loosen the body halves so that you can tighten the adapter the rest of the way.

When I install the adapter on my 98 I just loosen the 3 bolts closest to the front of the marker where the barrel screws in.  I'm not sure what they're called but: one goes through the front sight, one through the front hand grip, and the last one is next to the velocity screw.  Loosen them and screw the adapter in until the bolt is centered on the bottom.

Oddly enough, I just posted something in the C&U section on this same subject. I have a 98C w/ACT and the barrel adapter that came with the barrel only screws in about 1 1/2 turns and binds. I had to loosen nearly every receiver screw to get the adapter to fit. This just doesnt seem right.

I agree, it doesn't seem like you should have to loosen the screws the make the adapter fit, but in the end it works so I don't really mind the 60 seconds of screw loosening and tighening.

xXK1CK1NVV1NGXx:  My apologies, but I do not know the year of my marker, I would assume it to be 2007 model.

I resorted to taking the gun apart, installing the adapter, but now the darn, dang, stupid, piece of no good stuff, called a shroud is to short to screw into the rear sight piece.  I tried bolting it on before installing the actual barrel, but then the muzzle doesn't fit into the adapter.  Tired doing it with the muzzle in and then bolting to the rear sight but the shroud doesn't make it that far.  I have tried for over an hour now and still no results.  Seeing how I got the barrel for free I might just trash the thing.  Any ideas now?

I tried to make sure that the adapter is screwed all the way into the gun too.

Edit : After several minutes of debate, and comparing pictures of other markers with the flatline installed I concluded that the adapter was NOT screwed in all the way, and after a simple adjustment it is in place.  Thanks for your help and insights.

I will post a picture soon of my set-up.
