    Posted: 18 June 2008 at 8:02pm
So my friends started playing alot of speed ball, and I find my A5 hopelessly outclassed. I would like to buy a good speedball marker and I have about 4 or 5 hundred dollars to spend on the marker. I must admit I know absolutely nothing about speedball markers. What are a few good markers in that price range and what are there pro and cons? Also what are the necessary accessories such as drop forwards expansion chambers etc... The 4 hundred is just for the marker, I am willing to pay out more for the hopper. I don't need the best just something that I can compete on a even field with. I would like to have a marker that is easy to maintain and is above all light, no more 10lbs milsim markers. Thanks.

Well, you will need an HPA tank, new ones are $160ish. Nice hopper will
be another $100 unless you buy an Egg.

Are you willing to buy used guns?

BUT, if you go used, taking that setup:

$220 for MINI
$120 for a 68/4500 tank(get a new Myth for $150)
$60 Viewloader Evlution(not a big fan of Forces)

So, getting good, but cheap stuff and a used gun will save you quite a bit.
This setup is only $400 or $430.

Ya I have no problem with a used marker. So an Invert Mini is a solid marker?

Meh, if you're willing to buy used, you can get much more marker than the Mini. Say about ~200-225 for a good tank and hopper setup, and the 300-400 you want to spend can get you a lot. DM4s, DM5s,PMs '05 Egos, Eteks, Angel G7s and A1s, Legends, the list goes on and on.

Im picking up a Cyborg for $250 sometime next week. Just look around
on PbNation. There's always good deals. Just make sure they have a lot
of feedback.

The problem is I don't know squat about what makes a good speedball marker. I recognize the brands but I had no idea what a dm5 is for example.

If your new, Id stay away from DM5s, they need more maintenece than others.

DM5 is made by Dye.

If you are looking for something nice, yet reliable, fast, and just plain nice, I would look at Dangerous Power.  They make some nice guns.  I would suggest a used F8 or a new Fusion.  The F8, used, is about $300.  The Fusion is about $250 new.  Like previously said though, you can find guns that use to be $1000s for a couple hundred.  05 Egos and Eteks(Planet Eclipse) will be in your price range, used.

Suggestion #1:

Go to your local paintball place and use some other people's guns. If there's a decent place near you for speedball, you should be able to try out a matrix, intimidator, angel, mini, etc., and hopefully some other somehwat less common stuff. The main things you have to decide are: do you like the way the gun shoots/feels, and are you willing to maintain it? Spool valves, such as shockers and matrixes, generally require significant maintenance and replacement of o-rings, whereas intimidators and egos generally require for less, for example.

Within your price range, essentially anything is an option. Do remember you want a good loader, and a good HPA tank. I'd suggest, if you're buying used, to leave about $200 for those things.

I thought the DM7 had an issue with the frame being very weak and actually bending during rough play. Was that the DM7 or another version?

Anyway I'd suggest sticking to the A-5 and just keep playing with that. Using a gun like that would help you become a better player, and getting to a point where you can use less then 20 rounds in a single game and win usually gets people with fancy guns mad at you.

If however you want something nice and cheap for speedball my GF has a VS3 that is pretty good. A used one off eBay can be about $100 if you find the right one. A nice HPA tank and your all set. You can use it with a plain old grav. hopper, but then an agitated hopper would be usefull for really belting out rounds with the rocking trigger.

We're talking about $3-400 guns, and you bring up spyders?  Everyone usually shares the same sentiment about them.  They are cheap, arent that great, but usually good for the price, and make great loaners since not many people care if they break.  They are easy to fix.

Yeah, my friend is buying one of them for his girlfriend.  He wants to get a Pilot too.
