So it's like the newest version of AOL online, or what?
I'm OK with whatever DSL I'm using now; it goes down far less than the Comcast cable I was using last year. |

Roadrunner is the only ISP I can get when I'm at school. I'm really afraid that they're going to start imposing bandwidth limitations. I know they've been testing this out in Texas or something, and I know this is the norm in many other places. Australia uses this system, and IIRC, Chewp has experienced this with his ISP at home.
If this is implemented, you would essentially have a limit per month of bandwidth, say, 4 Gb. If you exceed that limit, they then charge you for each additional Gb you go over. I know a guy in Australia who told me they turn your internet off if you go over the limit. They're basically trying to make it similar to a cellular phone plan. Sorry to somewhat hijack the thread. |

Yeah, that sucks. Think what it would be like if you use VOIP phone service. |

I don't see it happening, successfully anyway. Kevin on Diggnation basically summed it up when he said that the only way that will work is if every single ISP in America does it and there are no alternatives for everyone to flock to. I think that's basically right, not to mention the net is pretty damned good at making a lot of noise when people do stupid crap like that....If they try it, it wont stick. |
