I'm new to paint ball and this forum, but have been modifying stuff for a long time. When I got an Alpha Black 2 weeks ago it was a cool gun, but after looking online for what was available and what other forum members have done to theirs I decided stock was too boring. I found the AK47 apex barrel on ebay and after some work in photoshop that gave me a good idea of the look, I got out the dremel and the hack saw and some paint and this is what I made. I removed the handguard from the ak barrel and modified the the AB handguard to fit it then made a short dummy clip to replace the AB one then painted it olive green to give it consistant texture.

Why dont you cut off the Carry Handle? I did with mine and it gives you more options when modding. Find a Model 98 AK stock and you should be Golden.

Seems like it would have made more sense to keep the AK47 grip if that is the look you are going after.  A little Frankensteinish IMO.

I wasn't going for a AK47 look. I just found the apex AK barrel cheap, so I got it for improved range and trick shot abilities. The AK stuff looked OK, so I left it. But the handguard wasn't stable( no tab to keep it from turning the barrel when you hold it) and slippery( unlike the M16 style handguard on the AB). This setup is just more of a performance upgrade than cosmetic.  I wasn't going for a Tac / Milsim look. I was going for a guarilla warfare style, use what you can find, look / Sci-Fi B movie "I just need a bigger gun" look.

ummm you could have just got the Apex barrel without the AK stuff on it, saved money, and kept from having such a conflict of looks.

I got a idea for a add on for under the barrel, not a grenade launcher, but a close range last resort  paintball shotgun using a mini potato gun setup and a small plug that holds 25-30 airsoft size 6mm paintballs . I've got all the bits and pieces to do it, probably start on it this week end. Likely not going to be able to use this at a paintball field, but I'll likely just be playing woodsball with my cousins anyway. Also looking to add a red dot sight. I'll be sure to post if I get the shotgun working.

thats essentially what most of the grenade launchers are.... a kinda dummy M203 grenade that doesnt fire out itself but houses 25-30 6mm airsoft paintballs in barrel like holes in the grenade and fires those in a shotgun-like pattern.

Really? I didn't know that. I just thought they shot oversized paintballs that made a bigger splat. Calling them grenade launchers is misleading. I saw the tippmann squad buster at wal-mart and thought the grenade launchers launched a variation of that. Oh well, then I guess I'm just making a grenade launcher on the cheap. So, since I got all the parts I guess it will be practically FREE.

If I wanted a M16/Ak47 hybrid paintball marker I'd just get an alpha black, give it an AK-47 magazine, flattop it and just say it was an SR47 assault rifle. That'd be kinda keen. Your hybrid looks ok though...

To sinisterNorth, It doesn't bother me that  you don't like the design, but to say it is "shoddy" is to say that the craftmanship of the Mod( which I did ) is poor or bad and I don't get that. The AB foregrip is securely fitted to the AK barrel and all sides are flush with rest of gun. Even the dummy clip is less than 1 degree of being perfectly parallel with the gun. Please explain what you find "shoddy" about it. THANKS. Maybe you just used the wrong adjective, please explain.
 
 
To every one else,  I appreciate the input on the Mod / design.  More mods are in the works.
