Custom just has all the ports and wahtnot for the upgrades.  Some things you have to send your model 98 to the proshop to get put in.

The Model 98 doesnt have as much milled out areas as the 98 Custom, has a slightly differant trigger assembly, has the imfamous gills, and the triggerguard is permanent.

The threads are slightly differant between the two. But any new barrel will fit either gun. An older barrel specificaly made for the M98 wont fit a 98C.

But even that is only after a certain serial number. My gun has the exact same threads as a M98.

Most of the upgrades work on either, but it may take more work. Example, you can get a double trigger on either gun. It will drop right into the custom, the model 98 will require a little work with a hack saw.
