Hey, I'm new to the forum world of tippmann and thought I'd ask a question. What's a good distance and accuracy gun without upgrades, I was thinking of getting a Tippmann A5 or a Smart Parts Ion. Which is better for distance and accuracy. By the way I play woodsball.

NO SMART PARTS   id aim for the DM4 or an angel...   all of the guns have the same distance unless u get a flatline barrel

um if hes looking at an a-5 i dont think a dm4 is in his price range

a tippmann a-5 is great for woodsball but i have to say its not that great unless u get a few upgrades like a barrel.  An ion is going to be much better for speedball but like u said u play in the woods.  Also with an ion you would need a fast hopper (think about another $75) and u would probably want a nitrogen tank (at least $75 but a good one is around $200).  If u play in the woods then a-5 all the way cuz if u ever decide to upgrade then u already have a fast hopper built in.  Personally i think an a-5 is better for the woods b/c stock its made to shoot one shot at a time.  An ion is made to shoot a string of paint which isnt as useful in the woods.  I kno a lot of people are going to disagree with me but i wouldnt recoment an ion as a first gun - its basically a high end gun w/o the extras so the cost is lower.

for the price of an ion and good electro hopper you could get an A-5 with E-grip and a bigshot barrel..

Well if it's between an A-5 and an ION then get an ION.
TIPPMANN 98 CUSTOM
14" Progressive barrel
32* Black gel grips
BT-16 Double trigger
Pen Spring Mod
X-core Expansion Chamber
Vertical Adapter

Well I don't want to just hold the trigger down, I'm more of a middle person only firing when they stick their head out and *BAM* hit em. I want the more accurate gun so I don't have to waste paint to get one simple person. I've also heard from people that the flatline causes bad accuracy, if this is true, im going for an ION

Hell no. The ONLY times an A-5 will chop are

1. With CHEAP crap paint

2. When someone has a response trigger and abuses it

An A-5 with Comp Air, 14 Lapco barrel, 400 psi operating, nitro tank at 500psi and 270 fps velocity will be so accurate it will make people with thousand dollar guns scratch their heads.
