I love stuff like that.
Not long ago there was a story about a 72 year old farmer in Africa who killed a panther with his bare hands by dropping his machete and yanking out its tongue. Or the uncle that wrestled that shark to shore to get his nephew's arm back. I wanted to make a reality show where contestants battled animals in the animal's natural environment. PETA would go nuts, but I'd bet some network would have picked it up. |

Shark uncle guy is the badass of the century. Seriously, how gutsy is it to go INTO the ocean to rassle a shark. Big shark, too, with a mouth full of human. I'm going to have to look up panther guy now.

I heard about the bear attack. I haven't heard about the shark or panther. I'll have to go look it up.

this is why hikers should carry guns. Or at least peppery spray to thwart the bears vision. But seriously, a weapon is a smart thing to have in the woods.

On Svalbard (a couple of islands way way way up North), it is ILLEGAL to leave the city without carrying a high-powered rifle. Too many tourists used to get eaten by polar bears... :)
EDIT - and in this case, the hikers DID have pepper-spray. Apparently the grizzly liked spicy human. Edited by Rambino |

i carry a military issue knife which ive used many a time to do just about everything but kill. Say, does anybody else enjoy backpacking? And i mean like you and a couple of guys have just backpacks and everything you need in it, knives, GPS and cell phone in case of emergency and you just go out into the woods, and you hike and camp out under the stars and stuff? I think its extremely fun personally.

GPS? That's cheating... Go old school, with compass and map. And no cell phones either. :) |
