Hey, I'm looking into getting my first car, and I'm looking to spend somewhere between 2000 and 3000 dollars. I'm thinking something like a 90's Honda Civic. I can either get a manual or automatic, but have never driven a manual before, but would be willing to learn. I've heard that driving a manual is more fun, so I was wondering why people say that. Thanks. |

It just gets you more involved in the process - more in touch with the car. But I would definitely learn stick BEFORE you buy. Mess up somebody else's transmission.

you have more control over your car. enter a turn in 5th, brake into the turn, drop down to 3rd, hit the gas. its hella fun. gets better gas mileage too, or at least if you want it to.

I drive my manual kiddy-cart around everywhere. Just kidding, but my mom has a manual and when she first got it she had no idea what to do so the rides were so uncomftorble. She can drive it well now though. |

I deffinitly prefer driving stick. I feel way, way more in control and in tune with the car than I do in automatic. Automatics just feel too much like go karts to me.
Deffinitly learn how to drive manual, even if you intend to buy an automatic, cause you never know when you might be in an emergency situation, and have to drive your friend, in their car, to the hospital or something. Also, what sort of city/ town do you live in? If you live out in the sticks, or a small town, then yeah I'd say manual. If you live in San Fransisco, where you could put a dent in someones benz at a red light if you dont balance the clutch right. |

I hate driving my mom's jeep when it gets finicky on the road and
letting out the clutch in first turns more into a bouncing session than
anything else. The gas pedal is so sensitive, and the clutch is rather
hard to move.
But I did enjoy it in one of my friends cars. It was easier. |

manual>automatic in almost all situations. 1. Save on Gas the only way an auto would be better is if you are drag racing, because autos are much more consistent from run to run. |

I perfer auto. Its better for driving in traffic and its easier to drive over all. Stick is fun but can get annoying after awhile. Take it from me traffic in a 5 speed Civic is hell. |

For about 5 or six you can get a mid 90's caddy with no miles on it owned by old folks. |
